Vasantham Pengal Sangam shortly known as VPS is a registered charity formed in the year 2005 and registered under Tamilnadu Societies Registration Act Read more 1975. Its main vision is to improve “quality of life of children and women in an empowered community”. It is working with children, women, adolescents, youth, farmers, and rural peripheral workers, HIV/AIDS infected and affected and dalit and tribal community. The main activities are organize and strengthen women SHGs, farmers groups, children groups, capacitate them to manage their own affairs, involve them in their socio-economic empowerment for creatively upholding their dignity, enable them to analyse, assess and articulate their needs, mobilize local resources for sustainable initiatives, support environment-friendly micro enterprises and usher a participatory development process at the grassroots. Mrs. S.Padma, a Post Graduate in Social Work and Commerce is the Founder and Director of the society
Issue
VPS is addressing the issues on social, economical, educational and health aspects of the rural poor. The major issues are on the organization side is to find out resources for the planned activities for the people’s empowerment. On the community side they give support for the activities of the organization. Sometimes the disaster is the issue to complete the task. Some people come with more expectation for their personal which can’t be addressed by the organization
Action
To achieve our goal, VPS is involving the people in all our developmental process. They brought them under a banner for their identity and long term involvement. It is not a registered body. VPS organize socio, economic and education programs for the members and also to the other community members. It involve the people in development activities such as skill training, conducting fair price shops, involve in cattle management, securing health rights for adolescents and women and addressing the eco-environmental problems. Further VPS supports for their capital investment for their livelihood developments

Alternative Marketing
This is an ongoing project supported by Women First International Fund, USA in Manachanallur Block, Tiruchirappalli district, Tamil Nadu. We helped to the women to open 4 makkal kadai (People’s Shop) in Solanganallur, Salapatti, Sirugudi and Manachanallur villages to supply the cattle feed at fair price to the cattle growers. Besides the cattle feeds they sell Rice and small millet items for consumption. The selected women are the owners of the shop and share their income on quarterly basis. The poor people access the benefits sometimes for credit and repay the amount in three four installment without interest. This will help them to prevent them debt bondage

Income generation support for women
Right sharing of world resources was supported three projects for income generation activities for women. It supported 120 women to establish their own ventures. The beneficiaries established their own ventures in vegetable vending, flower vending, mini food shop, petty shop, coconut thatches making, coir ropes making and cover sheet production. Now the beneficiaries are earning average Rs. 3800 per month.

Covid relief Activities
VPS collected and packaged groceries on whole sale price and repacked the rice vegetable, dry chilli, malli and doll for mass distribution. We distributed this package to 175 families each contains 15 kg of rice, 4 kg vegetables, 1 kg dry chili, 1 kg of malli, 1 kg of doll and biscuits. The efforts of VPS were much helpful to the poor to relieve from extreme poverty and prevent from debt bondage to some extent during the Covid 19. With support of Pollination Project, VPS supported the packed materials to 540 families. The Pollination Project supported another 175 familiar containing same material packages

Income generation through goat rearing
Improved income through goat rearing by adopting hydroponics system of fodder production100 poor women members of SHGs belonging to the Arunthathiar caste, the Dalit among Dalit, from 10 villages to improve their standard of living on sustainable basisThis project aims to strengthen 100 women from 50 SHGs from 10 villages among Arunthathiar caste women for increased income from goat rearing that will enable women to send their girl children to schools and improve their health of family members and provides sustainable livelihood31st March 2023, additionally 52 new women got the revolving fund and totally 72 women are benefited,The trainings and meetings was held with primary beneficiaries in four villages namely Konalai, Solanganallur, Salapatty and InamKalpalayam, We have conducted 5 village level trainings for 98 women on fodder production through Hydroponics System.
