YUVA (Youths Union for Voluntary Action) is focused on addressing the needs of tribal and underserved communities in Jharkhand, India. The organisatio Read moren is committed to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by harnessing the energy and creativity of youth. YUVA aims to break the cycle of poverty and hunger, ensuring that disadvantaged individuals have access to a life of respect, dignity, and opportunities through integrated actions and strategic partnerships. It collaborates with Governments, national and international organisations, and academia to enhance the delivery of public services and promote a caring, sharing society based on equality and brotherhood. YUVA works towards community development by leveraging local resources and engaging youth, with the goal of bridging the gap between different socio-economic groups without discrimination based on abilities, gender, caste, creed, or religion.

Action

1. Addressing malnutrition and illiteracy among the children of poorest of the poor marginalized 11237 families living in the coal mining areas of Jharkhand. 2. Addressing maternal and Child health, basic health care, hygiene and sanitation among 2652 ultra-poor families, Particularly vulnerable tribal groups. 3. Providing hand holding support to the 27903 resource poor tribal groups for their supplementary and complementary farm and non farm based livelihood. 4. Promoting state specific Dhokra Art and 988 artisans in different cluster for value addition in their products and diversification as per the market demand. 5. Addressing hunger and deprivation among the street beggars, ethnic tribal groups (Birhore) for their leading a life of respect through small livelihood options for their economic self reliance. 6. Working with communities on promotion of child protection and hence work to ensure child marriage free India, free of child trafficking and abuse

Impact

YUVA has made an impact, touching the lives of over 45000 individuals, engaging more than 150 dedicated volunteers, and successfully implementing 50+ impactful campaigns, creating positive change in Jharkhand's tribal and marginalized communities.

  • Women and Youth Empowerment

    District

    YUVA is committed to empowering women by creating a comprehensive ecosystem that supports their development. The organisation provides training and support to women in Jharkhand, enabling them to gain independence and make choices that lead to a fulfilling life. YUVA actively engages with rural communities to promote dialogue and raise awareness about opportunities for growth and empowerment among women. Recognizing the pivotal role of youth in society, YUVA believes in their power to drive financial progress, social upliftment, and overall prosperity. Youth empowerment is seen as crucial for both individual and societal development. YUVA works towards nurturing the talent and potential of underprivileged youth, enabling their growth and prosperity. The organisation views empowered youth as catalysts for positive social change.

  • Water & Sanitation Programme

    YUVA operates in nine districts of Jharkhand, working to improve access to clean water and sanitation in schools while promoting good hygiene practices. During emergencies, YUVA provides aid to communities facing water-related diseases or threats to their water supply. All water and sanitation programmes adhere to the hygiene and sanitation standards outlined in the Millennium Development Goals, with the goal of reducing the number of people without access to drinking water.YUVA implements integrated sanitation approaches, from waste collection to transportation, treatment, and proper disposal. Through education and awareness initiatives, YUVA sensitizes disadvantaged communities about the importance of clean water, sanitation, and hygiene. By promoting sustainable practices, YUVA has effectively reduced illnesses and improved overall quality of life.

  • Social Inclusion Programme

    YUVA is dedicated to supporting and rehabilitating individuals with disabilities from underprivileged backgrounds. Its comprehensive programmes aim to alleviate disabilities and provide physical, social, and economic rehabilitation. By engaging various stakeholders and creating an inclusive environment, YUVA works to empower individuals with disabilities and promote their full participation in society. Through its efforts, YUVA seeks to improve the quality of life and social inclusion of underprivileged individuals with disabilities. YUVA is providing home based care services to the special children in the coal mining areas for their community based rehabilitation.

  • Regeneration of Dhokra Art Programme

    District

    YUVA has undertaken an initiative to promote and revive the traditional tribal art and craft of Dhokra at a global level. Recognizing the decline of this art form and the challenges faced by artisans, YUVA has worked to inspire and support them through strategic partnerships. By providing encouragement, knowledge, and addressing issues such as rising raw material costs, YUVA aims to regenerate and preserve the diminishing Dhokra art.

  • Quality Education, Health and Nutrition for Children in Coal Mining Areas

    The organization is dedicated to ensuring inclusive, equitable, and quality education for the poorest of the poor families and their children in the coal mining areas of Ramgarh and Hazaribag in Jharkhand and hence ensure their enrolment and retention in the formal system of education, empowerment of SMCs and capacity building of children on life skills.

    YUVA works to meet the learning deficits among students and hence develop children club. These children clubs are empowered to develop in themselves as communication teams to address local issues in a child cenered approach.

    YUVA's education initiatives align with the principles outlined in The Right to Education Act (2009) and the National Education Policy 2020, which aim to enhance educational access and quality across the country.

  • Combatting worst forms of gender discrimination

    District

    Worked to improve the status of declining child sex ratio in the state of Jharkhand through strengthening of the DAC and DIMC, upgrading the PC & PNDT Portal by doing the GIS Mapping and geo tagging of 100% of the imaging centers (736)in jharkhand and updating the basic clinic wise details in the portal with the tag line of " Meri Beti Meri Shakti" tagline.
