The People with Hearing Impaired Network (PHIN-Deaf) is a Voluntary, Non-Profit, Disabled Peoples Organization that is running a Residential School fo Read morer Hearing Impaired children in Hyderabad, Telangana. PHIN was initiated by Mrs. V. Janaki in 2007. Although she was born hearing and speech impaired and into one of the most backward families in Telangana, her passion to serve the community from childhood made her a strong woman Activist. She has experienced the unlawful violations of the rights of the hearing impaired. After gaining vast experience advocating these issues at a grass-roots level, she has expanded PHIN's activities to Pune, Maharashtra, setting up an office there. PHIN has been addressing the rehabilitation and livelihoods of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) from the rights perspective. Advocacy, Networking and Rehabilitation are its thrust areas. With support from both government and non-government agencies, PHIN has been able to highlight issues of the Hearing Impaired at national and international levels. PHIN has been involved in the formation of self-help groups, training the Hearing Impaired in Sign Language, legal advocacy on behalf of the Hearing Impaired, disseminating IEC material on issues of the Hearing Impaired, fixing marriage alliances, resolving cases of marital disputes and domestic violence between Hearing Impaired persons, linking Hearing Impaired children to educational institutions, and providing employment linkages to the Hearing Impaired.
