Future Hope India

Future Hope is a charity rooted in a strong family ethos, tracing its origins back to 1987 when Tim Grandage, then the Bank Manager of an HSBC branch Read morein Kolkata, forged a bond with a group of street children who took care of his car. Through conversations with them, Tim became acutely aware of the multitude of challenges and needs faced by these children, who struggled to survive at Howrah Station. Determined not to ignore their plight, Tim began inviting street children into his home, eventually accommodating thirty-five of them, providing them with shelter and three square meals a day. Leaving his banking career behind, Tim garnered support from HSBC for his burgeoning charity. Initially faced with significant hurdles in helping the children settle, Tim recognized the necessity of establishing routine and providing positive role models. He introduced sports activities to channel their excess energy and foster a sense of belonging and pride within a team. Additionally, he established homes with dedicated house-parents who sacrificed their own family lives to cater to the daily needs and upbringing of the children. In 1998, in response to the increasing demand for quality education, Future Hope School was established. Understanding that education was crucial for a brighter future, Future Hope devised a flexible system allowing children to pursue either an academic curriculum or a more practical approach, both leading to government-recognized qualifications. Over three decades, Future Hope has positively impacted over 3,000 children and young adults, priding itself on the success of its alumni, who have emerged as self-reliant, industrious, and trustworthy members of society, contributing to their communities with steady employment and happy families. This success not only breaks the cycle of poverty for future generations but also enables them to uplift the larger community. Throughout its journey, Future Hope has been supported by numerous generous volunteers who have contributed their time, skills, and resources to help establish and sustain its mission. The organization extends heartfelt gratitude to all its supporters, including doctors, teachers, and donors, for their invaluable contributions.
