Kolkata Sanved, a women-led organisation, pioneers Dance Movement Therapy (DMT) to heal trauma and empower marginalized groups, especially survivors o Read moref sex trafficking and gender-based violence. Through partnerships across India and South Asia, it promotes holistic well-being and quality of life. Sampoornata, meaning fulfillment, is Kolkata Sanved’s innovative DMT program addressing mental health, gender equality, and livelihood development. It adapts DMT to Indian contexts, making it accessible to care institutions and marginalized communities. Creatively using dance and movement, it helps survivors reclaim agency over their bodies and emotions, voice their rights, and access opportunities for economic independence. The organisation aims to establish a Centre of Excellence on DMT by 2020 to further its vision of a violence-free, gender-equal society.

These sessions, held in childcare institutions and specially designed for the Indian context, aim to empower marginalized communities, including survivors of gender-based violence and at-risk youth. The unique Sampoornata model not only heals but also encourages participants to become DMT practitioners, fostering a cycle of transformation within society. Sessions include both regular group sessions lasting 2 to 3 hours weekly and monthly workshops, with a focus on empowering individuals to become agents of change.

Kolkata Sanved was founded in 2004, expanded its work to seven states including Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Jharkhand, and launched India's first university-affiliated Diploma programme on DMT with the Tata Institute of Social Sciences in 2013.
