Avanti Fellows work with the aim of providing low-cost, quality education to disadvantaged students aspiring to study at India’s top universities by d Read moreeveloping and monitoring programs, projects, curricula and mentorship practices that increase learning and financial outcomes. The Fellows, who are selected through an aptitude test and a personal interview round to evaluate their merit and financial background, are paired with Avanti Mentors (who are graduates from IIT, NIT and other premier universities and have been trained through teaching methodology workshops), who provide English language training and materials for competitive exams from partner institutes to the selected fellows. Avanti implements a pedagogy called Peer Instruction, that supports students and teachers with recorded videos and lecture resources which enable collaborative learning and reduce dependency on teachers by integrating ICT (Information and Communication Technology) in teaching. Currently, this technique is spread across 3 school systems – the Corporation of Chennai, Navodaya Vidyalayas and Haryana Government Schools. Another dimension of its work is Multi-Language Content Creation, which aims at providing teaching materials and workbooks in varied languages (currently Hindi and Tamil) helping teachers run effective classrooms. At present, Avanti has over 50 full-time employees & 100 volunteers and supports over 2400 students in 16 locations across 3 government school systems spread over 5 states. Impact

Avanti Fellows's preparation for entrance exam programme impacted more than 10,000 students with 62% of students qualifying in the JEE nationals, its JNV outreach spreads across 21 States and 5 Union territories impacting 7,500 plus students, The Sankalp programme reaches over 160 schools with more than 40,000 students which form 85% of schools in Haryana rural, its Ghar Pe School programme involves more than 1 million students, over 25,000 teachers, 6000 plus Whatsapp groups, 30% to 40% access to mobile devices, 70 to 100% of students enrolled on the groups scoring at an average 50% on weekly quizzes with more than 4,50,000 hours of content being watched, more than 50,000 subscribers and 20 million plus views.

  • Sankalp

    State

    Partnering with the Government of Haryana, Avanti Fellows run its Sankalp programme to ensure that power supply is not disrupted frequently, it also provides information and communication technology(ICT) devices and specially designed workbooks for students from grades nine to twelve. This programme includes thorough training and monitoring of teachers to help them understand STEM subjects.

  • Preparation for Entrance Exam

    It provides two years of after-school programmes to the selected students from low-income groups to prepare for Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas to help them prepare for its entrance exam from grades XI and XII in various government schools across different districts. The students are selected from the low-income group on the basis of their school performance. Avanti also conducts an aptitude test and personal interview. The selected student is paired with a senior fellow called a Mentor. Under its Jacobpura Programme, Avanti helps students to prepare for the IIT-JEE entrance exam along with their board exams by giving them one-to-one mentoring and providing the right direction for their preparation efforts. The programme is currently being run in Gurgaon, Haryana.

  • Government School Strengthening Program

    This programme focuses on strengthening the existing gaps in the school, education system, upskilling the teachers and administration. Students' needs are matched with the existing skills of teachers and teacher training programmes are conducted with a specific focus on Maths & Science. Currently, this program is being conducted in Haryana and Chennai.

  • Ghar Pe School

    To ensure continuity of education during the pandemic, the organisation initiated its Ghar Pe School programme. This programme makes use of social media applications like Whatsapp to teach low-income students. The teachers coordinate with students and send them daily learning plans, video content, assignments and notes through Whatsapp. Video content is also uploaded to Youtube which the students can watch and progress with their studies.
