The Department for International Development (DFID) works to end extreme poverty globally. It focuses on issues such as poverty and disease, mass migr Read moreation, insecurity, and conflict. It strives to create safer, healthier, and more prosperous communities in developing countries. DFID's financial grant aids to India terminated in 2012. However, after completing all existing projects in 2015, DFID began investing in the private sector in order to help the poor and to generate returns. It has thus been providing expertise to its investees and fortifying partnerships on global development issues such as food security and climate change. In India, DFID aims to increase investment, trade, prosperity, employment, and access to knowledge and technology. By doing so and accelerating development, it aims to generate a return for Britain through the creation of new markets for trade and investment. The main sectors that funds are used on according to percent are: 40% on health, 18% on education, and 13% on government and civil society. UK's top priorities in India are to facilitate the private sector in combating poverty in the eight poorest states by providing technical assistance, enhancing its collaboration with India on global development issues, and empowering women in the three poorest states by improving their access to education, medical aid, nutrition, and employment. Some of DFID's projects include "Infrastructure for Climate Resilient Growth in India", "India: Infrastructure Policy Fund", "Bihar Agriculture Growth and Reform Initiative (BAGRI)", "Poorest States Inclusive Growth Programme", "India: Infrastructure Equity Fund - Investment in small infrastructure projects in India's poorest states", "Innovative Ventures & Technologies for Development (INVENT)", "India: Infrastructure Loan Fund - Small loans to bridge the infrastructure gap for the poor", and "India: Affordable Housing in Poor States", among many others.
