In terms of specific micro-areas, the focus remains on supporting rural livelihoods, sustainable water management, soil and natural resources conservation, crops, livestock, food security information systems and fisheries. The organisation has constructed a country programme framework which includes both country development goals and FAO's strategic framework with an aim to improve nutritional outcomes. Further, the organisation's corporate priorities aim to strengthen food and nutritional security, foster agricultural production and rural development, enhance sustainable natural resource management, improve capacity to respond to food and agricultural emergencies and cope with the impact of climate change on food and agriculture. To achieve its objectives, the organisation provides for innovative approaches, brings in technical assistance in introducing international best practices and global normative work standards, assists in building capacity and acts as a policy advocate in its areas of expertise. Further, the country programme framework priority areas also aim to support small-scale holders in developing productivity and competitiveness for improving livelihoods and in-turn reducing rural poverty for disadvantaged groups.
