Hasiru Dala Innovations works towards improving the livelihood of waste pickers by providing them employment opportunities through its total waste man Read moreagement service initiative. It also provides social services and support to the waste picking community. The organisation works in close association with waste-pickers, waste sorters and graders, itinerant buyers and scrap dealers with an aim to achieve efficient waste management. The process of Total Waste Management Services involves waste workers to collect the segregated (dry, wet and sanitary) waste in two bins and one bag. They also collect electronic waste separately. Further, the segregated waste is sent to respective processing units. The services provided include waste collection for events and parties, electronic waste collection, urban gardening, waste audit, consulting and compost making. Additionally, the organisation undertakes several programmes such as establishing a Dry Waste Collection Centre, which is set up in each constituency where the organisation provides its support through managerial functions. The second initiative includes Organic Waste Management (OWM), through which the organic waste is converted to compost which is then used for terrace gardens and parks. Also, the waste-workers are trained in organic waste management and trained for employment as service providers. The third initiative includes Training for Skill Up-gradation which is in collaboration with Waste Wise Trust and Jain University. It conducts a certificate training program for waste workers to upgrade their skills which include managerial and technical competencies. The fourth initiative includes Advocacy at Municipal and State levels for inclusion of informal waste workers in Solid Waste Management Services.
