SWEET is one of the well-established and well known NGO. SWEET has been duly registered under Government of Tamil Nadu Societies registration Act vide Read more Registered No.113/97 Dated 16.10.1997. It has been operating under the able guidance of P.Sagayamary alias Tamilarasi, Secretary and 6 other women executives with the aim of uplifting the life style of the rural community especially aiming at addressing the social problems of Vulnerable women. At present, SWEET is working in 115 villages of Mailam, Vanur and Marakkanam Bolcks of Villupuram District, Tamil Nadu, India It is due to lack of alternative skill, lack of economic sources the poor human are happened to lead a vulnerable life, not able to quench the children thirst and hungry. In such a situation the helpless women finish their life by consuming poison or hanging leaving the children in the road. To remove the women from such nightmares the SWEET organization decided to work for the enhancement of socio economic conditions of poor rural women. A suitable business identification using local infrastructure is the only solution for their economic development. So we depute our staff, executives to expert NGOs to get training on women and successful micro credit program. Initially we have experimented the IGP through micro credit with little women group, obtaining the success rate of experience we started to walk on big level of program. Now SWEET organization and its beneficiaries are well informed about women and micro credit program, based on the mutual understanding SWEET walk on the road of women empowerment. We believe that mother is a first teacher to her children and also mother is a real family head to understand the need of children and qualified human being. So we wish to operate the project through the environment of women. SWEET is a women headed organization that is committed for the socio economic liberation of poor women who are living in the villages side lined by society and government.  SWEET works to improve the lives of women with HIV / AIDS, poor young widows, rural women, adolescent girls, poor children and marginalized people through development based initiatives and promotion of human rights. SWEET works for uplifting the lives of disadvantaged children, women, disabled, small and marginal farmers, agricultural labourers and other underprivileged rural communities.To promote the cultural and economic development, through multipurpose community developmental programs. The building blocks of our programs are to “Empower the Powerless” through education, skills on issues that affect their daily lives, through collective participation.

Programs

  • Income Generation Programme (IGP)

    The Income Generation Programme (IGP) facilitated by Right Sharing of World Resources (RSWR), based in the USA, has provided support to women living with HIV/AIDS and impoverished young widows from Irula and Dalit communities. Under this initiative, SWEET has assisted these women in launching their own businesses, including vegetable shops, rice flour production, tailoring, petty shops, and flower vending, empowering them economically.

  • Education Programs

    Education Programs are a key focus for SWEET, with the organization currently operating three tuition centers in three villages within the Mailam Block. Five volunteers serve as teachers, having received training in effective teaching techniques, child management, and communication skills. These centers cater to 90 disadvantaged children from Dalit and Tribal communities, serving as the starting point for rural children's development interventions. Funding for these centers comes primarily from local donations provided by well-wishers and friends of SWEET.
