Issue
Ginny's Planet is solving the long-term problems of stigma, inaccessibility, & other barriers by working with the general population, right from an early age. People are often excluded, stigmatized, ridiculed, & even forgotten because of differences & disabilities. Disabling infrastructures, unhelpful attitudes, and widespread social stigma in the general population also make disabled people among the most excluded in our country. This problem cannot be solved only by providing services to persons with disabilities [broadly 15%. of the population]. Ginny’s Planet believes that targeting the rest 85% is also important. And this should be done in a welcoming, non-stigmatizing, exploratory, & diversity respecting way. It believes that stigma, exclusion and ridicule on the basis of differences are because of the lack of orientation to diversity & empathy from childhood, and lack of products & services that can help with such an orientation. Hence, it builds products, content, and workshops that help in triggering and deepening conversations/understanding on empathy, diversity, disability, inclusion, and the spirit of inquiry. It targets children of different ages by focusing on parents, teachers, schools, and NGO/corporate employees.
Action
Ginny’s Planet is building a world where nobody is odd-one-out; being different is being okay; & disability is considered to be part of human diversity. Registered as a Pvt. Ltd. company, it aims to: 1. Offer products and training to orient children, teachers, parents, & teams on empathy, human diversity, disability, & the spirit of inquiry. At present, there are few products at a commercial scale that can help young minds with such an orientation. It simplifies & triggers conversations on empathy, disability and diversity through Ginny Doll, stories, puppets, workshops, internships, & online content. Its core workshops are: Practicing Empathy; Being different is Okay; Disability as Diversity; Inquiry & Research as a way of life; & Make your Own Ginny. 2. Support livelihood opportunities for persons with disabilities in the production, design, & sale of its products & services. 3. Create online content that can be accessed by people. 4. Offer disability, diversity & inclusion centred HR policies for organizations aiming to become inclusive.

Impact
Sustained engagement & multiple points of contact with Ginny’s Planet products & services leads to the strengthening of perspectives & skills on empathy, respect for diversity, & understanding of disability. Ginny doll itself creates curiosity, triggers questions, & normalizes diversity & disability as a part of humanity, as evident in anecdotes from customers. A father who bought Ginny Doll says, “..it started a very first conversation in my family about disability and diversity and inclusiveness. My six years old daughter Warda was quick to observe the design features like specs and brace and asked a lot of questions. 9-year-old Fatima read through the story of Ginny. This experience created a narrative that I shared with my colleagues and it further led to discussions on biases and prejudice we hold towards disabled people. I think Ginny is creating a space in this world where disability is accepted as diversity.” More here: https://www.ginnysplanet.com/what-people-say-about-us/ Children participating repeatedly in our workshops are more likely to believe in themselves as a part of human diversity. Moms completing the 3 month internship program grow more confident, equipped to accept diversity & pass on the perspectives in interactions with children. Such impacts help Ginny’s Planet build an inclusive world.
