The Nature Institute for Welfare of Society (NIWAS) is a non-governmental organisation dedicated to combating the adverse effects of climate change an Read mored global warming through collaborative efforts with grassroots organisations and rural communities. NIWAS provides technical guidance and support for sustainable natural resource management, agriculture, poverty reduction, rural health, and women's and child development, all within a watershed framework. Their vision is to uplift the living standards of rural youth, men, and women, working with development groups and communities to address climate change impacts. NIWAS's mission focuses on enabling marginalised and weaker sections of rural society to participate in rural development by strengthening their resource base and capabilities through improved knowledge and skills, both technically and socio-economically. Programs

  • Ideal Village Scheme

    The project "Adarsh Gaon Yojna, GoM" focuses on implementing the Government of Maharashtra's Ideal Village Scheme in Dhorala village of Osmanabad district. The primary activities revolve around Watershed Development treatments, drinking water, and sanitation initiatives benefitting around 3,000 people.

  • JALYUKTA SHIVAR ABHIYAN

    The training program, sponsored by the State Agriculture Department of the Government of Maharashtra, was conducted from 2016 to 2019. It targeted rural men and women, GP members, and agricultural department staff in selected villages of Osmanabad district. The project successfully provided training to 575 participants from 130 villages in the district. The primary focus of this initiative was to conduct training programs on watershed development treatments, water management, and village water budgeting for project stakeholders, which included members of the Watershed committees, Presidents, Secretaries, Sarpanches, and Gramsevaks.

  • Energy Awareness Programme

    In the "Energy Awareness Programme" supported by Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy Pvt. Ltd. held in January-February 2020 across 20 villages in Taluka Lohara, Tuljapur, and Osmanabad District in Maharashtra, the Nature Institute for Welfare of Society (NIWAS) aimed to educate rural communities about energy use, its significance, conservation techniques, and safety measures. This initiative was conducted by NIWAS, a Techno-Social development organisation dedicated to improving the living standards of rural men, women, and youth while addressing climate change and natural resource management. The program engaged 5,500 participants from 18 villages and had multiple objectives, including raising awareness to prevent energy-related accidents, educating villagers about energy resources and their current availability, dispelling misconceptions about energy generation, and emphasising the importance of conserving energy resources for future generations.

  • Drought Relief Work

    District

    The "Jansathi Dushkal Nivaran Manch" project, ran from January 2016 to March 2018, was supported by Caring Friends, Mumbai, SSM Sagroli Nanded, and MANAVLOK, targeted farmers, men and women in 20 villages of the Ambajogai block in Beed district. The project successfully reached 1,500 farmers, benefiting them directly through government schemes. Its primary focus was on creating awareness among villagers about various Government of Maharashtra schemes, with a particular emphasis on MGNREGA, total sanitation, and agricultural development.

  • Solid & Liquid waste Management

    NIWAS is working in the Solid & Liquid Waste Management program, a part of Swachh Bharat Mission-II, collaborating with five Zila Panchayats in various districts of Maharashtra, including Osmanabad, Satara, Kolhapur, Latur, and Solapur. The tasks involve creating village Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for solid and liquid waste management, offering technical support to 45 Gram Panchayats for executing proposed activities, and preparing technical estimates for the components, such as leach pits, underground drains, magic pits, and compost units. This initiative aims to enhance waste management and sanitation practices in these regions.
