Tinka Samajik Sanstha is training young girls in the sport of karate to empower them to defeat gender inequality and social stigma present in society Read moreand also give them confidence and strength to come up in life. The Co-Founder of the organisation while walking to a remote location to attend high school was faced with harassment from boys which led to her joining karate classes once she joined college and was never harassed again due to her self-confidence and physical strength coupled with martial arts training. The Sanstha is based out of a remote village in Madhya Pradesh where child marriages are common. Its beneficiaries are usually school children, school dropouts or girls identified by local administration and Corporates. These young girls are commonly the victims of harassment, abuse and early marriages. To arm the girls with confidence and courage the organisation enrols them in karate training classes. Besides helping them grow in determination the training also enables them to participate in national and international level sports competitions. It has successfully implemented sports in 354 institutions in its district, trained many children in 9 adjoining districts, opened 40 regular karate training centres, groomed 289 players to play national and 64 players at international sports competitions. It provides employment to students as trainers when they have attained the desired level of proficiency in karate. Its efforts have led to a decline in incidents of eve-teasing, harassment and providing a voice to young girls to speak against early marriage with confidence.
