It has developed affordable devices, mobile and computer applications under the name of Kibo to help the visually impaired people access books and material choice be it physical or online. The Kibo desk enables conversion of text into sound with help from a computer application. It can read printed, handwritten and digital text across multiple Indian and foreign languages in real-time through audio and also translate and listen/read documents across over a hundred languages in real-time. The organisation also offers over 8.5 lakh accessible text books to help the visually impaired community get reading material at par with their normal counterparts. The Kibo application which can be installed on a mobile device has the capability of recording sessions, making notes out of them and also read the content out aloud to the visually impaired user and does away with the challenge of reading normal text-books. Trestle Lab’s assistive technology has helped many visually impaired students through Kibo in preparing for their higher-education and competitive-exams while some visually impaired teachers even use this for teaching and assessing handwritten answer sheets of their students.
