Skilling & Supported Employment Projects (Ssep)
The Skilling and Supported Employment Projects (SSEP) vertical consists of two activities. The Skill Development Centre (SDC) provides training in the soft skills such as teamwork, communication, problem-solving, work ethic, flexibility and adaptability and interpersonal skills that are required for most kinds of employment. We also provide training in the hard skills required in the F&B sector; more specifically those associated with work opportunities at Café Arpan and Arpan Food Services and other similar entities. The second activity under the SSEP is a supported employment initiative known as Arpan Food Services (AFS). The flagship program under AFS is Café Arpan which has generated immense interest in the community at large. We have dedicated teams of PwIDD who work in both the kitchen (providing freshly cooked meals) as well as Café Arpan. Currently, we have 38 PwIDD who work and train with us as a part of the SSEP with a waitlist of persons waiting to join.

Theory of Change
What is the problem we are trying to solve?
Persons with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (PwIDD) are marginalized and have difficulty participating in the larger community as productive, contributing members. We are trying to fill this gap and providing opportunities for acceptance and inclusion.
Who is our key audience?
The community at large including the families of PwIDD, business establishments, professionals who work in the field, students (because they are the next generation).
What is our entry point for reaching the audience?
Our entry point is all the work we do on multiple fronts – we provide community based supported employment opportunities, we do awareness workshops and seminars, we put out AV content, and we are active on social media in promoting and propagating the work towards acceptance, inclusion and empowerment.
What steps are needed to bring about the change?
Skilling PwIDD with hard and soft skills (required in all industries), providing PwIDD with supported employment, awareness, display an incubation model of Skilling and Supported Employment (such as Café Arpan). All of these are the measurable effect of our work:
1) Developed a job ready & skilled workforce in F & B sector which is technology savvy to the best possible way.
2) Workforce with a good happiness quotient
3) Confident family who support the idea of making the PwIDD not only independent but a contributor to the family income.
What are the wider benefits of our work?
1) F & B and other industries can replicate YCT's successful model.
2) A more inclusive community. This is a work in progress
3) PwIDD become self-advocates inspiring many others like them.
What is the long term change we see as goal?
1) A better equipped industry and community to include and employ PwIDD.
2) Provide respect and dignity for differently abled as a valuable human resource.
3) Develop a healthy diverse community that respects and provides opportunities for all marginalized populations to live and work where they choose to.
Milestones & Track Record
> Total of PwIDDs given jobs by YCT & others: 32 persons
> No. of job opportunities outside YCT (through collaborations): 5 persons
