Turning Pages is promoting the habit of reading books in primary school children in schools who then take it to those schools where underprivileged ch Read moreildren study resulting in the joy of reading being spread irrespective of being rich or poor. All the children in a session read the same book and get together to discuss it in a group. It works on the guidelines laid down by the NCERT (National Council for Educational Research and Training) and NCF (National Curriculum Framework) keeping the expectations and teaching methods in line with the grade that the child is in. The practices and inputs from the organisation act as a support to normal learning that happens in schools. It also includes emotional and social learning in its choice of books and learning from ISELF (Indian Socio Emotional Learning Framework) which ensures that social behaviour and emotional health form a part of discussions. Its careful selection of books ensure that the children are given a different view of the world, support socio emotional development. It looks at recommendations from eminent authors and experts to select books and also make them ready for challenges that they might face in life in future through the fun way of reading. It encourages children to read the same book and get together for in depth discussions on the content. The discussion is structured and guided in such a way that the children gain self awareness, understand their own connection to the world and build their critical thinking skills. They are free to express their thoughts and feelings and through interactions with each other get confidence in expressing themselves freely and creatively. The children are guided towards key important outputs such as writing a book review, writing their own story, creatively giving different endings to the stories, placing themselves in the setting, giving a book talk and many more activities. In the pandemic, discussions are being held online to facilitate continuation of the effort.
