Currently, its main focus is on resolving the issue of waste management, particularly non-biodegradable and difficult-to-recycle waste plastic. It employs tribal women and youth, providing them with craft-based livelihood opportunities. Through its process of upcycling waste plastic using traditional Indian charkha and handloom techniques, it creates a handcrafted fabric that is used to make various consumer products, including handbags, fashion accessories, and home decor items. The driving force behind reCharkha's work is the urgent need to address the growing problem of plastic waste and its detrimental impact on the environment. The organisation aims to prevent plastic waste from polluting landfills, water streams, rivers, and oceans, ultimately protecting the diverse ecosystems and living beings affected by it. Additionally, reCharkha recognizes the widening gap between rural communities and urbanized regions due to the concentration of economic opportunities in cities. Its mission is to bridge this divide and bring about eco-social development by transforming environmental and societal conditions through its initiatives.
