Gurukul Foundation emerged from an informal association of dedicated social activists after the devastating Odisha super-cyclone of 1999. Since its formal establishment in July 2017, it has been progressively expanding its activities in the tribal and hilly regions of Odisha Province, India. Its initiatives encompass a bottom-up, need-based approach, ensuring human dignity and fundamental rights in a sustainable manner. The organisation's core mission revolves around addressing the diverse needs of vulnerable populations, emphasizing a holistic development strategy that considers geographical challenges and the lack of basic necessities. Through its commitment to human rights and global standards, the Gurukul Foundation remains dedicated to making a positive impact on the lives of those it serves.

Programs

  • Sustainable Agriculture Programme

    Gurukul Foundation is dedicated to advancing sustainable agriculture in the remote hilly tribal areas of Malkangiri (Didadi, Bonda tribe), Koraput, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jagatsinghpur, Kandhmal, and others. Its programme focuses on promoting farming systems and practices that not only ensure the economic viability of agricultural production but also prioritize sustainable ecological methods. By implementing these initiatives, it aims to foster environmentally conscious and economically sustainable agricultural practices in these challenging regions.

  • Child Rights, Education & Development Programme

    Gurukul Foundation concentrates on child rights, education, and development, with a primary focus on advocating for children's rights and combatting child labour and abuse. It addresses the educational and developmental requirements of children in vulnerable situations. The organisation implements innovative school and training centre activities both within and outside of formal education systems, aiming for the comprehensive development of children, with a particular emphasis on empowering girls and those facing unique challenges.
