The Independent and Public-Spirited Media Foundation (IPSMF) is officially registered as a public charitable trust based in Bengaluru. The trust aims to raise editorial standards, influence public discourse, provide an alternative perspective to mainstream media, and empower individuals in exercising their democratic rights. In pursuit of its goals, the foundation has set two primary objectives. Firstly, it seeks to create public-interest content and ensure its widespread distribution to smartphone and digital device users. Secondly, it endeavours to act as a watchdog and advocate for the public interest at both national and state levels. By establishing strongholds of journalistic excellence, the Foundation intends to exert pressure on traditional media newsrooms and editors, compelling them to fulfil their vital role. Through investments and grants, the IPSMF strives to develop a robust ecosystem that supports professional and independent journalism, upholding values such as public interest, social justice, and enlightenment.

  • IPSMF-DAKSH Workshop on Justice System Journalism

    In collaboration with DAKSH, a civil society organisation dedicated to promoting accountability and better governance in India, IPSMF organised an online workshop titled "Justice System Journalism" exclusively for its grantees. Renowned former Supreme Court Judge, Justice Madan Lokur, led a session on Judicial Reforms at the workshop, which was attended by 27 journalists from 21 grantees. The one-day workshop covered essential topics such as the Indian legal system, fair reporting on the justice system, judicial reforms, and the challenges and responses in court reporting amidst the new normal.

  • IPSMF-Alt News Workshop on Fact-Checking

    In collaboration with fact-checker Alt News, IPSMF organised an exclusive two-day fact-checking workshop for its grantees on June 24-25, 2021. Led by Alt News co-founder Pratik Sinha and colleague Jignesh Patel, the online workshop witnessed active participation from 42 journalists representing 16 grantee media organisations. The workshop provided hands-on training, focusing on combatting misinformation, verifying information and images using various tools, ensuring online safety and data protection, and securely archiving web content. The sessions were highly interactive, fostering an intense and engaging learning experience.

  • Panel Discussion on ‘The future of News Media & The Role of Independent Media’

    On October 25, 2019, CEO Sunil Rajshekhar delivered a presentation titled "Funding Independent Media" at the BIC in Bengaluru. The presentation highlighted the activities of the Independent And Public-Spirited Media Foundation (IPSMF), which offers financial assistance and mentorship to digital media organisations engaged in producing and sharing public-interest information through serious and independent journalism.
