As an NGO in Mumbai, Akshaya Chaitanya is our attempt to make food accessible to the needy across Mumbai by serving them hot, nutritious, locally pala Read moretable meals prepared at our very own state-of-the-art FSSAI-compliant kitchen. And by doing so, we want to enable people to explore the unlimited opportunities around them, an aspect that gets muted when their stomach screams for food. Our Vision To open up a world of opportunities for every vulnerable by ensuring food security. Our Mission We shall provide food to one lakh beneficiaries every day across different vulnerable situations in Mumbai by 2025. Our Feeding initiatives ensure food security for the vulnerable population in Mumbai across Government Hospitals, Government Schools, and Children living in the slums. Free food is served daily to help them enjoy one meal a day that is hot, freshly cooked, and nutritious.

Issue

1. The biggest irony is, Mumbai, the financial capital ranks the worst on the hunger index in Maharashtra and urban India. - 59.7% of households in urban slums of Mumbai are ‘severely food-insecure (i.e., they run out of food and have to survive without eating for a day or more) -Nearly 50,000 children in Mumbai are severely malnourished and nearly 2,000 lose their life every year fighting hunger -Every 2nd child in Mumbai is wasted or stunted which means they either have a low height for their age or a low weight for their height. Hence we came with the Bal Shiksha Ahara and Paushtik Ahara Program to remove classroom hunger. 2. When the marginalized sections face any health issue, government hospitals are their only option. -Monthly income levels of families range from ₹7,000 to ₹25,000 only (SEC-D & E) -90% either do not have any medical insurance or any savings, making them vulnerable to unplanned medical expense1 -The majority work on daily wages and lose their livelihood during a health crisis in the family.
