Kala Aur Katha is a Trust based in Bhubaneswar that aims to foster a modern storyline through visual art forms such as textiles, crafts, and material Read morecultures. The Trust provides an enabling environment for artists, weavers, designers, and researchers to engage in a discussion based on the scientific description of local people, their customs and associated research. Its primary objective is to revitalise and encourage original handicrafts and support weavers, artists, artisans, Dalits, Adivasis, and farmers. The trust involves in design and research-based pursuits, takes up the study and documentation of local practices and traditions, creates visual records of customs, and narration of craft stories and legends. Kala Aur Katha also provides art education, prints study-based reports and books, campaigns for women workers, produces documentary films, conducts workshops and training sessions, and endorses viable practices to promote an economy based on nature-friendly practices. The trust recognises artists and offers scholarships and awards to promote sustainable practices that support weavers, farmers, artists, women, Dalits, and Adivasi people.

Design Innovation Research Programme
The Trust aims to bring traditional art forms and crafts into the limelight and thus encourages the weaving of handicrafts made out of locally available golden and sabai grass, bamboo, and date palms. It promotes present-day designs in textiles including Tussar and Ikat work, applique and quilt work also boosting silver filigree and Pattachitra which is Odisha’s very local art form.

Weavers Support Programme
It conducts skill development sessions for women artisans wherein innovation is introduced in existing art forms. The Trust identifies young artisans and women weavers and empowers them through marketing and capacity-building support for their businesses. It also conducts eye checkups for the weavers and provides them with glasses.

Voices of Women Programme
To empower women workers from backward tribes and social groups the Trust spots leaders amongst them and presents them to the public in the form of documentaries using local art forms as tools of storytelling. International Women’s day is celebrated with great enthusiasm in its centres across Odisha to mark its journey of women's empowerment.

Education Programmes
As part of its educational initiative, the Trust collects books on art, design and anthropology to set up libraries and in equal measure donates books to local schools. It also financially supports students from underserved communities to pursue their education. Partnering with Nuapatna – Digikala Centre it has launched a library intended to provide design, weaving, science and other books to women workers, artisans and poor students.
