    2014

“Samvedna” translates to “helping others in need” and this is the motto of our organization. We work across the journey of creating independence and Read moreresilience for women - teaching vocational skills and generating sustainable livelihoods to improve mental and physical health. We believe that women are the crux of society, and we firmly believe that independence and autonomy for women reflect a thriving community that empowers their families and children. Ms. Arti Saxena and Mr. Deepak Barthwal together founded Samvedna Connecting Souls Trust in Rishikesh in 2014, when they saw rural women in their vicinity lacked skills and educational opportunities. When women are empowered they become active change leaders in the communities. Today, we are joined by diverse partners, interns, volunteers, and kind humans worldwide who believe in our mission.

Issue

Samvedna’s model is drawn on the four pillars of growth; learn, develop, earn, and serve. Initially, we teach women the necessary skills in our development classes that encompass stitching, dress designing, hand embroidery, and candle making. We introduce them to grooming sessions and personality development classes to prepare them for the process. The development class helps hone the necessary skills to design clothes and candle-making, thus incentivizing them to be independent. Our base headquarters is in Rishikesh Tapovan, but we have multiple centres operating in different villages to ensure accessibility to women hailing from other regions of Rishikesh. Workshops are conducted in these villages, and local teachers are hired who are provided with syllabus, learning material kits and certificates denoting the end of courses. Our vision is to run multiple channels across. New centres require initial funding, and we like to request support for our cause humbly. We at Samvedna have planned to open centres in the maximum rural locations possible to educate & upgrade the skills of the maximum number of women possible. We currently have five education centres running: 1. Tapovan, Rishikesh 2. Neer village, uphills from Neer waterfall 3. Gehli village, Yamkeshwar 4. Bapugram, Rishikesh 5. Mansadevi, Gumaniwala. Now, these six villages are awaiting, us to open centres there too and start our training classes: * Kairkhal village, near Neelkanth temple * Umrain village, Yamkeshwar * Sant Nirankari Bhawan, Yamkeshwar * Jwalapur, Haridwar * Kodiya village, Cheela * Gankya village, Pauri Garhwal . Our basic training lasts three months, for 20 women or girls. After completing the course, these women achieve independence to continue working at their previous work while simultaneously generating additional income for their expenses with the sewing machines provided to them. They are also free to explore their options at Samvedna where we provide them with work and reasonable compensation. In this manner, could you support us?

Action

How We Make a Difference EDUCATION- We educate women and young girls by teaching English, financial literacy, and basic computer knowledge, and facilitating peer-to-peer learning support. We train rural women to gain direct vocational skills such as stitching, tailoring, and embroidery by providing them with the basic tools to start and operate. EMPLOYMENT - When women are involved in economic activities, they not only produce and earn money for their households, but they bring happiness to the house, health, end malnutrition, and enhance education levels within the family. After completing the course, women are empowered to generate additional income for their expenses with the sewing machines provided to them. They are also free to explore other paid opportunities such as candle making at Samvedna where we provide them with work at a fair compensation. ENVIRONMENT - We are dedicated to environmental stewardship and community engagement. Our endeavours such as tree plantations aim to instill a profound sense of environmental responsibility within the younger generation, empowering them to embrace a sustainable, eco-conscious lifestyle. EMPOWERMENT - We work on holistic capacity building and adult training by exposing the women to a range of activities - from providing adult education, and life, to social skills training. We facilitate workshops on self-defense, yoga, menstrual health, mental health, and movie screenings

Programs

  • Skill Development

In our development classes, we empower women by teaching essential skills such as stitching, dress designing, hand embroidery, and candle making. Grooming sessions and personality development classes are incorporated to prepare them for the process. These development classes play a crucial role in honing the skills required for clothing design and candle-making, encouraging their independence. The products created by these women are sold, and the profits are shared with them.

Currently, we operate four education centers in the following locations:

    Tapovan, Rishikesh
Neer village, uphills from Neer waterfall
    Gehli village, Yamkeshwar
    Bapugram, Rishikesh
    Mansadevi, Gumaniwala

  • Tree Plantation

We have working with village women since 2014, train women in varied skills such as Stitching, Dress design, Hand Embroidery, candle making and many more. Our base headquarters is in Rishikesh Tapovan, but we have multiple centers operating in different villages to ensure accessibility to women hailing from other regions of Rishikesh.
Samvedna also works on sustainable houses and tangible products with the collaboration of Tiny Farm Lab.

    Why Tree Plantation Project

Tree-planting project in Rishikesh, which will enhance the beauty and sustainability of our community and provide numerous environmental and social benefits. As you know, Rishikesh is a popular destination for tourists and spiritual seekers alike, with its scenic trails, Maa Ganga, Yoga, and adventures. Now with lots of development and contractions, we need to plant more trees to provide shade, improve air quality, reduce soil erosion, and enhance biodiversity.
