    2003

The New Malabar Punaradhivasa Kendra Charitable Trust (NMPC) family is situated in Malappachery, a village within the Madikai Grama Panchayath in Kasa Read morergod district, Kerala. This institution serves as a shelter for individuals enduring various hardships, including orphans, the elderly, individuals with disabilities (physical or mental), the visually or hearing impaired, those residing on the streets, individuals suffering from diverse illnesses, and those lacking support or aid. Since its establishment in 2003, the organization has offered refuge to a total of 1803 individuals. Presently accommodating 115 inmates, both men and women, the New Malabar Rehabilitation Center initially operated from a rented house in Pallikkara near Bekal in Kasargod district. Subsequently, leveraging the sale of family property, the organization acquired 90 cents of land in Malpachery within the Madikai Grama Panchayath area and constructed a house there with the support of the local community.

Programs

  • Old age home

    State

NMPC Trust offers specialized care for the elderly, particularly for those living alone in their old age. They receive enhanced medical treatment and care in a warm and affectionate environment, where they are provided with love, support, and all necessities appropriate for their age.

  • Disabled care

    State

NMPC Trust houses several physically challenged residents, particularly those unable to independently meet their basic requirements due to their disabilities. Separated from their original homes, these individuals receive improved medical care at NMPC. The objective is to enable them to lead more independent lives without relying heavily on others. For mentally challenged individuals, the organisation provides training in activities such as bottle art, clay modelling, etc. The care extends to those with physical impairments, visual impairments, hearing loss, and those unable to communicate verbally.

  • Mental illness care

NMPC encounters the challenge of rehabilitating mentally challenged individuals, particularly young ones. It's disheartening to see many young people in such circumstances, wandering the streets, even seeking sustenance from drains. The organisation make concerted efforts to reintegrate them into regular life, providing essential medical care. To date, NMPC has successfully helped around 245 young individuals regain a semblance of normalcy. These individuals now lead regular lives with their families across various parts of the country.

  • Promotion of art and culture

    State

The NMPC family strongly emphasizes the therapeutic value of mental well-being for its residents. To ensure their mental joy, the centre organizes a weekly art fair for the inmates, fostering creativity and expression. Additionally, various competitions are regularly held, accompanied by prize distributions. The centre conducts hygiene awareness programs, health seminars, and lifestyle disease diagnosis camps. Furthermore, visitors such as school and college students, along with different organizations, present dramas and cultural programs, offering mental stimulation and enjoyment to the members of the NMPC family.

  • Agriculture

    State

The organisation integrates marginalized individuals into the societal mainstream by establishing a self-sustaining living environment through self-employment and agriculture. NMPC cultivates pesticide-free vegetables using slurry obtained from the bio plant as the primary fertilizer. Additionally, it manages the care of cows and other animals within the NMPC family.

  • Saksharata mission

    State

This project aims to foster education regardless of age, religion, caste, or gender. It encourages inmates to enhance their literacy, reading, writing, and drawing skills. The library offers books of various categories and languages, creating an environment that sparks new knowledge and imagination, providing a respite from worries and miseries.
