Programs

  • Feed a Stray Programme

    District
    State

Since the initiation of the COVID-19 lockdown in March 2020, the KAW team recognized the plight of stray animals reliant on humans for sustenance. Addressing this, it launched a feeding programme, initially catering to 100 animals and expanding to include dogs and cows, reaching 350 animals daily during the lockdown. This ongoing initiative is part of a broader plan to vaccinate and sterilize stray dogs for their long-term well-being and population control. The daily feeding costs Rs 3000, crucial for preventing hunger. Additionally, the Feeder Support Programme aids local feeders by distributing in-kind donations, ensuring a positive impact on more lives.

  • Spay and Neuter Programme

    District
    State

Sterilization, the process of "de-sexing" an animal, involves neutering for males (removal of the testes) and spaying for females (tying the ovarian tubes or hysterectomy). It's crucial for health benefits, reducing aggression, calming behaviour, and preventing reproductive organ-related health issues like cancer. In an Indian context, it addresses the challenge of stray dog overpopulation. Sterilization is emphasized by KAW, aiming to curb the crisis and urging adopters to prioritize it. Neutering lessens testosterone-related behaviours without altering a dog's character, while spaying prevents reproductive health issues and lowers the risk of breast cancer in females.

  • Wall of Compassion Programme

    District
    State

The "Wall of Compassion" initiative, a collaboration with Delhi-based Artist/Designer Dharya Gambhir of THE ARTENDER DESIGN STUDIO, seeks to raise awareness. The project encourages MNCs, Corporations, Hotels, Schools, or Government offices to allocate a wall for artwork depicting compassion towards animals. Supervised by Dharya and the team, this team activity utilizes visual images to convey messages of love and kindness towards companion animals. Acknowledging the impactful nature of visual representation, the initiative aims to influence perceptions and nurture a culture of empathy for our animal companions.

  • Microchip and Pet Registration Programme

    District
    State

The microchip and pet registration programme aims to achieve several key objectives. Firstly, it facilitates the efficient reunification of pet parents with their animals, introducing a structured recovery process in India. Traditionally, lost pets are located through temporary flyers or word-of-mouth, relying on phone or mail-based contacts. Microchips enhance this process by providing a centralized contact point, streamlining reunions. Secondly, the programme establishes accountability, particularly for first-time pet owners who may release animals obtained from shelters. Microchips enable traceability, holding owners responsible, potentially blacklisting them, and preventing further adoptions.
