Programs

  • Education Programme

Focusing on school education, Sahjani Shiksha Kendra (SSK) shifted its approach in the last decade, engaging directly with children to promote literacy. Working under the Right to Education (RTE), SSK intervened in school education, enhancing both literacy skills and leadership qualities among children. Adopting strategies like Janishala, Bridge Course, Information Communication and Technology (ICT) Centers, and Shivirs in Schools, SSK aimed to bridge educational gaps and ensure quality education, free from gender, caste, and class-based discrimination, ultimately linking literacy with empowerment.

  • Literacy Programmes

Sahjani Shiksha Kendra (SSK) concentrates on implementing literacy and education programmes tailored for women, particularly from Dalit, Adivasi, and marginalized communities. The literacy programmes encompass two stages – Basic literacy and Advanced literacy, both spanning 18 months. SSK's approach integrates women's empowerment and social transformation into educational endeavours, emphasizing active women's participation in curriculum development and implementation. The organisation employs a multifaceted strategy, including Literacy centres, Information centres, village-level Literacy camps, Residential camps, Jani Adhikar Samiti, Jhola Pustakalaya, and Literacy Resource Group, to effectively address diverse literacy needs at the grassroots level.

  • Rights & Empowerment Programme

Active engagement of women and girls, organised under the SSK banner, addresses various local and social issues. These encompass the Right to Work, Right to Food, Right to Education, Pension, Food Security, Violence against Women, and Early Marriage. Women, often deprived of basic rights, employ strategies like rallies, protests, and public hearings to amplify their voices. SSK's initiatives focus on empowering marginalized communities through literacy and education, with specific efforts addressing MGNREGA participation, food security, the right to education, violence against women, and combating early marriage practices.

  • Training & Resource Group Programme

Sahjani Shiksha Kendra (SSK) focuses on building women's leadership in two key ways. Firstly, by empowering the local team for autonomy, and secondly, by supporting village-level women's collectives. Unlike many interventions that separate roles, SSK's literacy facilitators, known as 'Sahjanis,' adeptly handle both teaching and grassroots activism. Over time, these facilitators have developed into a committed and responsible team, addressing injustice, collaborating with local administrations, and providing valuable community information. SSK is uniquely positioned to become a regional resource group for gender, empowerment, and adult literacy in Bundelkhand.
