Issue

Adolescents living in poverty face significant challenges in accessing quality education and making the most of the educational opportunities available to them. Meanwhile, at the opposite end of the economic spectrum, children are weighed down by family responsibilities, leading them to miss out on genuine play, rest and relaxation. This early exposure to the fast-paced and stressful nature of adult life starts at increasingly younger ages. Their daily existence is marred by the unavailability of parental guidance, constant exposure to crime, enduring abuse within the confines of their homes, and an enduring scarcity of basic resources. These harsh realities consistently place these young individuals in a perpetual state of vulnerability, facing a myriad of emotional and behavioral challenges that significantly impact their well-being and development.

Action

Our mission is to offer a safe space for children and youth by promoting mental well-being through creative engagement. We strive to foster resilience, inspire self-expression, and create a supportive environment that enables their emotional and psychological growth.

Summary- Children aged 7–13 are in a critical developmental stage characterized by rapid cognitive, emotional, and social growth. Understanding and addressing their mental health needs during this period is essential for fostering resilience and well-being. Through this project, we aim to improve the psychosocial well-being of children living in poverty who have limited access to mental health care. The project aims to deliver innovative, art-based therapy to children at risk.
Target Beneficiaries-Youth (17–20-year age group) from marginalized and lower socioeconomic communities in Noida.
Goal -To improve the psychosocial well-being of children living in poverty by providing innovative art-based therapy.
Rationale- Children living in poverty are often exposed to a range of stressors that can negatively impact their development and mental health. These stressors can affect cognitive, emotional, and social development, leading to long-term consequences.
The adversities they encounter significantly shape their experiences, compelling us to address these critical issues with urgency and compassion. It is critical that children have the tools and platforms they need to express and understand their feelings, as well as make sense of confusing emotions that are often difficult to articulate. Art therapy has proven to be extremely beneficial for children, improving their quality of life, self-esteem, and overall social, emotional, and psychological health.Sessions will enhance self-expression and help children communicate thoughts and feelings, improving social interactions and relationships with peers and adults. Creative activities will foster self-awareness, encouraging personal growth and a stronger sense of agency. And achieving creative goals boosts self-esteem by providing a sense of accomplishment and confidence.
