Samartha trust is a non-profit organisation that was started in April 2019 in Bangalore. The organisation works toward creating an inclusive and equal Read more society for children with Disabilities. The first step in social mainstreaming of such children begins with enrolment in school and in sensitising the immediate community (that includes home, neighbours and school) around them. Samartha has developed community-based sensitising programs revolving around the issue with an aim to promote sensitivity, awareness and most importantly social inclusion of vulnerable children. Thus, giving these children like any other their rightful and equal chance towards growth and development. Vision: To give the Community of Children with disabilities an opportunity to realize their potential, enjoy freedom from discrimination and live with dignity. Mission: To empower communities and children with disabilities with appropriate Skills, Knowledge, Values and Attitudes to overcome poverty, illiteracy, diseases and social injustice.

Advocacy and Awareness Program
Samartha Trust is dedicated to fostering community engagement and awareness regarding persons with disabilities, aiming to facilitate significant improvements in their lives. Through their advocacy and awareness group, the Trust implements various programs focusing on implementing the Persons with Disabilities (PWD) Act, while also addressing issues surrounding rights and perceptions through advocacy efforts targeting policy makers, educational institutions, and the wider community. Their activities include street theatre programs, media campaigns, inclusive sports and cultural events, community awareness initiatives like the Inclusive Walkathon, and workshops for parents to enhance their understanding of disability and parenting skills. Additionally, the Trust emphasizes the importance of networking among parents and conducts regular advocacy efforts with governmental departments to further their mission.

Vocational Centre
Samartha Trust's Vocational Centre focuses on providing skill development and livelihood opportunities for adults with intellectual disabilities, addressing the gap in support for their transition from special schools to open wage employment or meaningful livelihood engagements. Through prevocational, vocational, and work readiness training programs tailored to individuals aged 16 to 30, the Trust aims to equip them with market-relevant skills and self-advocacy training. Their objective is to enable people with disabilities to attain sustainable livelihoods, contribute economically to their families and communities, and live dignified lives. Key activities include promoting self-help groups, offering business management skill training, facilitating access to financial services, and networking with employers to create job opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
