Migrant/Construction labourers generally hail from villages and migrate to metro cities in search of employment. Low socio-economic conditions and lack of education are the factors which force them to work as construction labourers. Many times, they struggle to purchase necessary household items which fulfill their basic needs. The children of migrant workers living at the construction sites lead a nomadic life style, live in vulnerable conditions, deprived from the education system, engaged in household and construction work very early, malnourished and therefore facing various behavioral problems. The program lays down a strong foundation for the development of children of Construction Labourers from the age group of 1 to 16 years through ensuring education, nutrition, health services, recreation, protection and community participation at construction sites. Currently, we are working at 15 construction sites across Pune & PCMC areas. The program promotes holistic development with a focus on learning capacity of the children. This is carried out at the child friendly activity centres on the construction sites. These centres are instrumental in promoting free, inclusive, equitable, joyful and contextualized opportunities for laying foundation and attaining full potential of the child. To cover nutrition and health, a provision of nutritious meal is ensured and both preventive and curative approaches of health are introduced to address the needs of the child.
