Healthcare Services for Newborn Screening Programme
StateThe organisation actively promotes healthcare, with a particular focus on newborn screening (NBS). Newborn screening is a crucial process that involves screening newborns just after birth for disorders that could lead to severe illness or death if not detected and treated early. Currently, there is no national NBS program in India, leading to a high incidence of hearing defects, congenital heart abnormalities, and inborn errors of metabolism (IEMs). Undiagnosed and untreated, these conditions can result in serious developmental issues later in life, placing a significant emotional and financial burden on parents. To address this, the organisation collaborates with hospitals to support the implementation of NBS programmes, aiming to prevent and manage preventable or treatable genetic disorders in newborns.
