Formed from informal gatherings in Cooch Behar, it grew into an official group in 2011. The Society's goal is to create an inclusive environment where everyone in the queer community can thrive. It offers skill programmes, health services, and legal help to ensure equality. It also fights for fair access to education and jobs while raising awareness against discrimination. Its vision is a world where everyone, regardless of gender, can live with respect and equality. Its mission focuses on supporting transgender individuals in Coochbehar, building networks, and advocating for equal rights.

Programs

  • Sensitization Programme

    Moitrisanjog Society conducts one-day sensitization workshops aimed at raising awareness among various stakeholders, including police, teachers, hospitals, local community leaders, school students, political leaders, and Government officials. These workshops focus on cultivating sensitivity towards the importance of entrepreneurship. By sensitizing participants, the society aims to create an understanding and awareness of key issues, encouraging them to respond and contribute positively to the cause.

  • Perspective & Capacity Building Programmes

    Moitrisanjog Society conducts perspective-building and capacity-building programmes, focusing on enhancing the skills, abilities, and resources needed for the organisation and the community to adapt and flourish in a dynamic environment. These programmes aim to foster internal transformation that extends beyond tasks, bringing about changes in mindsets and attitudes. The Society recognizes that true capacity-building involves not just skill development, but also a shift in perspectives and attitudes, allowing for lasting positive change to take root and thrive.

  • Education Programme

    Moitrisanjog Society has been dedicated to serving the transgender community and promoting child education since 2009. The Society operates an educational centre called Gurukul, which serves as a unique school in West Bengal managed by the transgender community. Through Gurukul, children receive education, meals, books, and other necessary supplies, offering them a safe and supportive environment to learn and grow.

  • Livelihoods Programme

    Moitrisanjog Society conducts regular livelihood programmes for both LGBTQ community members and women. These programmes held every quarter, offer training in various skills such as paper plate making, beauty parlour services, mat making, and catering. These skills empower participants to secure employment or start their own businesses, providing them with the means to earn a livelihood. Through these initiatives, many individuals from the LGBTQ community and women have successfully obtained jobs and launched their own ventures, showcasing the positive impact of the Society's livelihood programme.

  • Monthly Support Group Meetings

    Moitrisanjog Society conducts monthly community support group meetings to address the unique challenges faced by the transgender community, promote mental health, and enhance child education. These meetings provide a safe space for transgender individuals to discuss their gender identity, expression, and navigate a cisnormative society. With a trauma-informed approach, the support groups offer resources tailored to their needs, helping them cope with discrimination-related trauma and fostering a sense of empowerment. The meetings also aid individuals facing domestic violence, providing a platform to share experiences and build connections. Moreover, these gatherings assist unemployed men and those struggling with addiction by offering job opportunities and support to overcome addiction.
