Kalpavriksh is dedicated to the conservation of biological diversity and the livelihoods of communities dependent on it. It believes in the intrinsic value of biodiversity and its vital role in providing ecological, livelihood, and cultural security. In the face of global challenges like climate change and resource exploitation, Kalpavriksh advocates for an integrated approach that harmonizes conservation, cultural preservation, and sustainable livelihoods across landscapes. Its work spans research, documentation, advocacy, and inclusive governance of protected areas and Community Conserved Areas (CCAs). It actively engages with legislation like the Forest Rights Act and Wildlife Protection Act to support community-based conservation and strives to create an enabling environment where communities can balance their livelihoods with ecological security while fostering a change in societal and Governmental attitudes.

Kalpavriksh is dedicated to environmental education with a focus on fostering respect for biodiversity and its role in ecological, livelihood, and cultural security. It creates educational materials and localized programmes that connect individuals with their natural and cultural heritage while promoting conservation and sustainable resource use. Kalpavriksh collaborates with various partners and funding sources to develop materials for specific regions like Kachchh, Bhimashankar Wildlife Sanctuary, Ladakh, and VGKK School. It also offers resources for educators and conducts training programmes, workshops, and events aimed at raising awareness about biodiversity conservation and sustainable living practices.

Kalpavriksh is dedicated to promoting a vision of societies that are just, equitable, diverse, and sustainable. It aims to challenge dominant systems of power that perpetuate injustice, inequity, and unsustainability. Through initiatives like Vikalp Sangam and Radical Ecological Democracy, it seeks to showcase and foster alternative ways of meeting human needs without harming the environment and leaving marginalized communities behind. It emphasizes ecological sustainability, social well-being, direct democracy, and economic democracy as core principles for building a more equitable and sustainable society. Additionally, it contributes to academic-activist collaborations like ACKnowl-EJ, document environmental conflicts, and participate in global initiatives to create networks of solidarity among diverse alternatives worldwide.
