2010
Established in 2010 with the aim of advancing recycling in India, Paperman engages in diverse initiatives such as public awareness campaigns, an on-de Read moremand recycling platform, the management of processing units in collaboration with state governments, and providing comprehensive services to the recycling sector. It offers state-of-the-art technology to clients, partners, and public organizations to execute large-scale recycling projects. Paperman commenced its journey by initiating school recycling programs in Chennai. A student collaboration with IIT-Kharagpur led to the development of a platform mapping kabadiwallahs in Chennai. The school recycling program expanded significantly in 2013, encompassing over 200 schools and engaging more than 300,000 students across South India. Later, Paperman introduced a groundbreaking On-demand Doorstep Recycling mobile application, akin to an "Uber for trash," facilitating direct connections between households and kabadiwallahs. The year 2015 witnessed the launch of the Trash Funding program, resembling a "kick-starter model," raising funds for local non-profits through recycling by small and medium trash-producers. Just a year later, the doorstep recycling technology program reached 5,000 touch points, involving 270 kabadiwallahs in Chennai, and raising over 2,500,000 INR for over 40 non-profits. Paperman then initiated collaboration with waste material aggregators and recyclers to enhance the economics of India's recycling industry. The year 2018 marked a pivotal shift toward becoming a "Trash Economy accelerator," with a focus on managing India's trash through a Circular Economy model.
