The Hyderabad Karnataka Disabled Welfare Society (HKDWS) oversees six districts: Kalaburagi, Yadgir, Bidar, Raichur, Bellary, and Koppal, all situated Read more in the highly disadvantaged Hyderabad Karnataka region. Founded in 1990, the HKDWS operates under the ethos of "SELF HELP IS THE BEST HELP," rallying individuals to tackle the region's pressing social, educational, and economic challenges, particularly impacting the disabled community. Through initiatives such as education, training, and rehabilitation programmes, the establishment of Braille presses and libraries, and organising seminars on disability issues, the society aims to uplift disabled individuals. It also promotes self-employment through cottage industries, aiming to provide quality education, vocational training, job opportunities, and socio-economic rehabilitation, particularly for the visually impaired. Plans include setting up a Braille books library and a Computer Training Center using specialized software. The overarching vision is to ensure a life of self-respect and dignity for the disabled, currently serving over 75 blind students in a modest 2-story building with essential amenities, which was established in response to the closure of another school and continues its vital mission under the auspices of the Hyderabad Karnataka Disabled Welfare Society.
