About

  • Since

    1999

Since 1999, the founders of Rainbow Schools have embarked on visits to various centers in India supporting disabled and orphaned children, observing d Read moreisparities in the quality of care provided. While some centers were well-equipped and efficiently managed, others fell short in meeting the diverse needs of their beneficiaries, often fostering dependence rather than independence. Many lacked the necessary expertise to cater to special needs individuals and maintained a secluded environment, devoid of integration with society. Recognizing these shortcomings, after nine years of training educators and caregivers, Rainbow Schools envisioned a holistic, inclusive, and integrated approach to supporting vulnerable individuals, particularly in Northern India, where such practices were lacking. This vision gave rise to the concept of Rainbow Schools, aimed at empowering and educating not only the children but also the broader community, serving as a model for systemic change in the educational landscape. Their vision is to create a world where every child, irrespective of ability, can lead a happy, safe, and fulfilled life, achieved through providing comprehensive educational, emotional, physical, and mental support. The principles guiding their mission include promoting and safeguarding vulnerable children, advocating for their full participation in society, fostering a conducive learning environment for all, employing innovative therapies, and ensuring sustainability with a positive environmental impact.

Issue

Special needs children are one of the MOST vulnerable amongst us. They are not a curse, or a fault of the parents, they are a GIFT from GOD. Poor facilities, poor quality specialists, and very poor guidance for parents from professionals lead to an unnecessarily burden on parents. On top of all this our society places, shame, blame and ostracises such families from society.

Action

Applying for CLU and all other government approvals for a unique school, vocational and teacher training centre. Workshops with parents of special needs to educate and skill them up with tailored plans for their child to grow and develop to their full potential.

Impact

We have worked hard to CHANGE attitudes towards special needs and many parent's lives have been transformed by our input. They now see their special child as an opportunity to make themselves and their surrounding community better, more understanding and supportive. The new school, vocational and teacher training centre will have a huge impact on the whole society, but most of all on special children that will get first class 21st century training from volunteer UK and western specialists - all working on a pro bono basis.
