Established in 2000 by Mr. C Subramaniam, the National Agro Foundation (NAF) operates as a Public Charitable Trust, aiming to catalyze rural developme Read morent, particularly in agriculture, and uplift small and marginal farmers. Its inception stems from Mr. Subramaniam's vision for inclusive growth, drawing parallels with his pivotal role in India's Green Revolution. Transitioning from a "Seed to Grain" paradigm, NAF embraces a "Soil to Market" approach, underlining sustainability in its pursuit of economic and social empowerment for farmers. Following Mr. Subramaniam's leadership, Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam, former President of India, assumed the role of Chairman of NAF's Governing Council. Dr. Kalam's guidance further propelled NAF towards its objectives, steering the organisation through strategic initiatives aimed at fostering rural prosperity and agricultural advancement.

The National Agro Foundation has reached over 245 villages, serving more than 40,902 farmers and forming 57 grassroots level community organizations. Additionally, they have set up 232 rural enterprises, promoted 54 Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), and conserved over 5496 lakh litres of water annually.

The project facilitated watershed interventions, benefiting 216 hectares and enhancing water and soil conditions. Approximately 34,080 kiloliters of water were harvested through various structures, with 10,000 cubic meters of channel clearance conducted. Additionally, 4,500 plantations were established to augment green cover, while 14 training sessions and exposure visits were organised, benefitting 887 farmers. Two threshing yards were constructed, benefiting 120 farmers, and 30 self-help group women received training in Aari, handwork, and embroidery.

It implemented the Agro-Forestry Plantation Project in collaboration with Asian Paints Limited (APL) in Cuddalore District, Tamil Nadu, aiming to blend agricultural and forestry practices sustainably for improved land use, environmental conservation, and economic opportunities. The project involved planting 1,295 native variety saplings, each 7 to 8 feet tall, to maximize survival rates.
