Recognizing the plight of women and chi Read moreldren affected by human trafficking, BUP was formed to combat this injustice and champion their rights. It works alongside various stakeholders to address human rights violations and uplift affected communities. Through empowerment initiatives, educational programs, and skills development, BUP aims to prevent unsafe migration and provide alternative livelihood options. It focuses on reforming socio-cultural norms to promote gender equality and tackle illiteracy. By engaging with community leaders and policymakers, BUP advocates for the education and safeguarding of vulnerable groups, particularly women and children. Collaborating with legal authorities, it facilitates swift justice for trafficking victims and marginalized individuals. Additionally, by organising labour unions and establishing citizens' assemblies, BUP promotes democratic engagement and campaigns for social and economic fairness. Together, BUP endeavours to build resilient communities and eliminate human rights violations.
Action
BUP implements programs in environmental conservation, women's empowerment through Self-Help Groups, sanitation improvement, combating human trafficking, and providing healthcare services including tuberculosis treatment and eye care camps.

The organization has established 196 Self-Help Groups with 2,354 women members, facilitated the rescue and rehabilitation of human trafficking survivors, and implemented sanitation programs in villages to make them Open Defecation Free.

Environmental Programmes
Barasat Unnyan Prostuti (BUP) actively promotes environmental sustainability through various initiatives, including the observance of World Environment Day on June 5th annually. BUP has implemented the National Environment Awareness Campaign Program in its project areas since 2009, with funding from the Ministry of Environment and Forest, Government of India. Additionally, BUP operates "Barasat Paribesh Bondhu" to facilitate environmental activities. Collaborating with the West Bengal Pollution Control Board and local government, BUP conducts awareness campaigns to conserve biodiversity and maintain ecological balance.

Milestones & Track Record
BUP has formed a survivor collective called 'Bijoyini' in North 24 Parganas, facilitated compensation of nearly INR 58 Lakh for 20 survivors of human trafficking, and established a national presence through the Indian Leadership Forum Against Trafficking.
