About

  • Headquarters

    Pudukkottai, Tamil Nadu

Rural Organising for Social Improvement Foundation (ROSI) works towards the development of tribal communities and Dalits living in rural districts of Read moreTamil Nadu. We run projects for women empowerment; educating poor children; providing alternative livelihoods; helping the abandoned elderly; and assisting in legal advocacy for victims of human trafficking or exploitation. Dalits and tribal communities fall into the most marginalised sections of society for reasons such as their primitive education, discriminated status, and limited income. Even worse, some remote areas have to survive without electricity or proper roads connecting them to cities. We supply training in alternative methods of earning a living, such as dairy farming, honey harvesting, and goat rearing. Furthermore, we provide elderly care homes, legal advocacy, and counselling to human trafficking victims. We also provide solar lanterns and huts to those living in the most primal conditions and run crèches and schools where stationery is distributed freely to tribal children.

Programs

  • Tribal development programme

This program was initiated in 2010 as a focused project with various activities including the operation of creches and educational centers, provision of solar lights, addressing housing and land ownership issues, supporting income generation projects such as lemon grass oil units, rescuing tribes from caves and risky areas, and facilitating their rehabilitation. ROSI Foundation has played a significant role over the past seven years in continuing this work, particularly focusing on human rights, community certificate issues, obtaining solar lights, ration cards, and voter IDs, as well as conducting activities related to Minor Forest Produces (MFP) and other relevant issues in the tribal areas of Sirumalai and PALANI Hills.
