U&I Trust

Through U&I’s care initiative we presently work with 180 men and women, 60 boys, and 31 toddlers and children in four State-run homes in Bangalore. We invest in the special needs of men and women with intellectual disabilities, boys with special needs, and children who are abandoned/orphaned.

U&I works in partnership with government staff and aims to transform their lives by giving them proper access to special education, physiotherapy, vocational training, physical activity, social interaction and a safe and hygienic environment.
Our full-time staff at the Care Homes ensure that they are seen, heard and live with dignity.
In the last ten years, we have seen lives transformed. Many of these vulnerable people have changed from being violent, disinterested and volatile to becoming engaged and purposeful individuals who enjoy their daily tasks and interact well with their peers.

Through U&I Teach our volunteers dedicate their time, talent, and energy to empowering children from lesser privileged communities to pull themselves out of the cycle of poverty through our after-school education program. Our model is delivered to students between the ages of 7-21, also enabling them to secure their first job and become financially independent.

At U&I, we provide Academic, Life, and Career Skills, maintaining a 1:1 teacher-student ratio to help children f realize their potential. These skills including foundational literacy, communication skills, life skills, and career readiness help build a stronger foundation for their future.

The development of these skills is vital for children to pull themselves out of poverty. By acquiring foundational literacy and numeracy, they gain the tools necessary for academic excellence and lifelong learning. Providing academic support and helping develop their communication skills enhances their self-confidence and prepares them for further education.
Life skills, such as personal health and safety, social and relational skills, and personal growth, are imparted to help build a safe and solid foundation for a fulfilling life. Digital literacy and 21st-century skills provided, are critical to thrive in this digital age
Lastly, career skills such as career exploration, college readiness, and career readiness help enable children to identify their passions, access higher education, and find employment, ultimately breaking the chains of poverty and creating a brighter future for themselves and their communities.
