The strength of MYRTLE lies in creating awareness about various social issues through puppet shows. Over a period of time, Myrtle has come up with projects that can serve community in education, health care, social and economic welfare of the underprivileged. Myrtle is a tree which has been a symbol of beauty, love, paradise, immortality, justice, divine presence, peace, prosperity and promise. Our Vision To work for the marginalised children and society by enhancing their quality of life. Our Mission Create opportunities, hope and self-respect among underprivileged children, youth and women so that they can achieve their full potential. History The Myrtle Social Welfare Network is a group of three families (in India), collaborating in order to strengthen the social, emotional, and economic competencies of disadvantaged children, women and youth in India, and provide them with a sense of self-worth and with the opportunities to experience a full range of life options through self-empowerment, education and training. MYRTLE was founded by Ms. Saral Shanthini, a professional medical & psychiatry social worker and a right based activist. The MYRTLE concept is her brainchild, and it is her vision that has created its distinctive holistic approach to helping vulnerable and disadvantaged children, women and youth to achieve self-awareness, self-determination and self-sufficiency in modern Indian society. Our Objectives To prevent abuse, protect children and promote their rights. To support education for under-privileged children. To support children and their families suffering from chronic diseases. To provide support for tribal children and community To provide sustainable livelihood for vulnerable youth. To promote women empowerment and gender equality. To create awareness on environmental protection among children and youth.

Women’s Shelter for Urban Homeless
StateTo sustain a women's shelter for impoverished women and children in their urban shelter home at Teynampet, Myrtle, Chennai NGO has partnered with Greater Chennai Corporation. About fifty prisoners who have been abandoned by their families are being empowered, supported, and shielded by Myrtle. In addition, this facility offers night refuge services to women who have been abandoned by their relatives.
In addition to making the effort to give its inmates clothing and food, Myrtle is very interested in reunifying them with their families whenever it is feasible. This homeless women's shelter encourages and provides opportunities for its prisoners to participate in productive activities and gainful work. -
Community Development Project - Tribal Welfare
The non-profit organization Chennai Best NGO Myrtle Social Welfare Network adopted its first intervention in 2012 at Attrambakkam Irular colony and after a heavy Chennai flood disaster in 2015 Myrtle extended relief support to 12 irular tribe villages in Poondi block, Tiruvallur district, over the years we found there is a need for a Community Development Centre for the welfare of Irula Tribal community. So with the support of philanthropists we have constructed 1350 sq ft building community hall in the ground floor(photo enclosed). The community centre land 10888 square feet has donated by our Managing Trustee Ms. Saral Shanthini for the welfare of Irula Tribal Community at Govindarajakuppam, Attrambakkam Village – Poondi Block, Tiruvallur District which will serve 10 nearby villages directly. Myrtle has built a strong relationship with the villagers and local leaders during these years. The following activities happening at the Centre.

Paediatric Cancer Support
Myrtle one of the vision is to support Cancer affected children and families fighting against cancer in Chennai. Myrtle works among the underprivileged, downtrodden and economically poor society and supports them to fight against paediatric cancer. Myrtle believes families deserve the best care and support when they have a child diagnosed with cancer and that they should not feel alone at this difficult time. Myrtle supported children with cancer and their families with the help of our individual donors at Chennai Tamilnadu.
