Issue
The world today is standing at the brim of the 4th industrial revolution as we enter an era of complete transformation. It is no secret that in coming times, technological innovation will completely change the way the world functions. Like the preceding revolutions, in this era of artificial intelligence, the ones who gain from it the most would be people who have access to the digital world. Therefore, in this era of digital technology and internet of things, it is crucial for the current education system to evolve to equip the students with relevant knowledge and skills. This can be done by embracing the inculcation of new age technologies such as digital learning, interactive simulations, 21st century skills, etc. in the educational system and processes. In line with the same, the National Education Policy 2020 recognises development of 21st century skills and adoption of holistic and multidisciplinary approach to education that caters equally to learning, digital literacy, and life skills. The Policy lays special emphasis on revamping teachers’ training and skill building to include new-age courses to promote experiential and competency based learning, in order to achieve better learning outcomes for students. Digital divide among underprivileged students from government schools- While India's education system has made significant progress in overcoming various challenges, it faces a pronounced digital divide. In addition to the lack of access to computers, other factors that contribute to the digital divide in India include- lack of access to the internet, lack of digital skills among teachers, poverty, and gender inequality The digital divide has a number of negative consequences for students, such as poor academic performance, unemployment after graduation, and a lack of participation in the digital economy. For girls, the digital divide can also lead to increased gender inequality. Girls who do not have access to digital education are less likely to develop the digital skills they need to succeed in the workforce and to participate fully in society. The digital divide in Indian education is a critical problem that hampers the educational prospects of millions of underserved students, especially girls. Addressing this issue is imperative to ensure equal access to quality education for all students, regardless of gender.
