2010
Srotoshwini Trust is based out of Vadodata, Gujarat, India. It was registered in 2010, primarily aimed at encouraging underprivileged children to stud Read morey and give them a conducive environment to study and be responsible citizens in future. Pathshala, a mobile informal school, was initiated in 2013, basically for the children of construction labourers. From 2013 to 2019, we taught almost 90 children in Pathshala, situated at Parsuraam Bhatta, Sayajiganj. The children came from Fatehganj street, Sardar Estate footpath and Parashurama Bhatta a slum area at Sayajiganj. We had a hostel for 17 kids who went to school regularly and engaged in age-appropriate activities. We firmly believe, that children being the most vulnerable section of the society, are more susceptible to choose wrong paths as the ambience where they stay is not conducive to do anything positive in life. The more they are busy in studies and other activities, the less they get involved in anti-social activities. Our NGO is trying to reach the unreached through imparting education and values of life. Due to the unprecedented progress made by the children living in the hostel, we decided to build a hostel for 100 children. The construction of the hostel begain in December 2017 and finished in September 2019. Currently we have 80 children and 7 hostel mothers living full-time in the hostel. The hostel is located in Lasundra village, Savli, in the outskirts of the city of Vadodara. The children go to Navprerna School which is run by the Navrachana Education Society for their formal studies. Year 2020 has been specially challenging due to schools being closed. We have some visiting teachers from the village that are helping us teach our children. The hostel mothers have been organizing many creative, sporting and academic activities to keep the children engaged and busy. For safety concerns due to Covid, we haven't sent the children back to their homes (on the streets, slums and villages). That has meant a no-break stint for the hostel staff for the last 9 months keeping the children safe, healthy and engaged. It has also meant increased cost for food, clothing, activities and logistics since the children have been on campus 24x7. We have two other sister initiatives - we run Pathvbhavan, a Learning and Development Center at Sanjay Nagar, Sama where almost 40 children come to attend evening classes between 6PM to 9PM. The idea is to help them with their academic progress and also engage in extracurricular activities for their overall development. During Covid-19, we are following the local government guidelines and have stopped the in-person classes. Our teachers continue to host remote classes for children using used mobile phones donated by our well wishers. In 2015, we initiated Churni, an endeavor to empower disadvantaged women. Here we have involved 22 ladies who are mothers of our children of Pathshala and Pathbhavan. We have a store located in Sama, Vadodara that sells the Churni products.
