The Women's Cancer Initiative - Tata Memorial Hospital (WCI-TMH) is a non-profit organisation led by key figures such as Dr. R.A. Badwe, Mrs. Devieka Read moreBhojwani, and Dr. Sudeep Gupta. Its main focus is providing support to economically disadvantaged women diagnosed with breast and gynaecological cancers. This support includes covering the costs of treatments like chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, radiation therapy, surgery, and rehabilitation. The initiative also collaborates with Tata Memorial Centre (TMC), which is supervised by the Department of Atomic Energy and consists of Tata Memorial Hospital (TMH) and the Advanced Centre for Training Research and Education in Cancer (ACTREC). TMH registers about 25,000 new cancer patients annually, primarily from underprivileged backgrounds. WCI-TMH, established in 2003 through a partnership between Devieka Bhojwani and Tata Memorial Hospital, organises the Annual WCI-TMH Breast and Gynecological Cancer Conference, a significant event in India's medical calendar. This conference gathers oncologists to discuss pertinent themes. Additionally, the initiative funds translational research projects at Tata Memorial Centre, focusing on breast and gynaecological cancers pressing issues in India. Generous donations from various sources, including businesses, philanthropic organisations, and notable personalities from the arts, support WCI-TMH's activities.
