Issue

In India, the gross enrolment rate of girls in tertiary education is 26.4% (Source: HRD Ministry). Limited family finances, priority given by the family to the boy child’s education has led to this. The Foundation is trying to bridge the gap of ‘gender inequity’, of trying to solve ‘lack of women empowerment’ in financially disadvantaged homes, to address the issue of ‘lack of financial independence’ of women, and to break the myth of low participation of women in STEM. In such families, a girl’s education & health is never given priority, as they do not expect an adequate return from investing in her as she would someday become the daughter of another home. We are targeting this group for two reasons: it is a large and emerging segment of the population, and two, by supporting girls from this section of society we will break the assumptions on a girl’s education. Women, thus made financially independent through our project, help their families advance out of poverty.
