St. Martha’s Hospital, Bengaluru was founded in 1886 by the Congregation of Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd (also known as the Sisters of the Read more Good Shepherd) in response to the urgent need for medical aid to those affected by the epidemic of plague & famine. SMH welcomes with open arms, all people of varied backgrounds to an environment of tranquility, holistic healing and compassion. What began with only 50 beds has now grown into a multi-specialty hospital with over 550 beds. We are animated by our philosophy of loving compassion for the poor and the suffering. SMH seeks to provide the best possible healthcare in a spirit of selfless service free from a motive of profit to all people, without distinction of caste, creed or race. The hospital is centrally located, in a spacious ‘green’ campus, over an area of 18 acres. It treats over 2,50,000 out-patients and about 22,000 in-patients annually. The hospital offers facilities like State-of-the-art diagnostic services – CT scan, X-Ray, Color Doppler Ultrasound Scan, Endoscopies, Laboratory, Blood bank, 24×7 services such as emergency unit, pharmacy, ambulance etc, Well equipped diagnostic and therapeutic center such as Dialysis unit & Operation Theaters, Physiotherapy unit, Birthing Rooms & Painless labor with ANC (Ante-natal Care) Package, Diet Counseling, Preventive Health Packages, ICU, CCU,NICU, PICU, Deluxe, Private and Semi-Private Rooms, Regular OPD’s and Special Morning & Evening Consultations. Through its Community Health Department, St. Martha’s Hospital has extended its services, well beyond its walls to reach the sick and socially marginalized. We also run a successful DNB program in the disciplines of Medicine, Surgery, Orthopaedics, Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Anaesthesiology and Family Medicine.

College of Nursing
Since its establishment in 1933 by the Sisters of the Good Shepherd, the School of Nursing at St. Martha’s Hospital has evolved into a College of Nursing, offering both Degree and Diploma Courses in Nursing. Recognizing the growing demand for quality nurse educators and administrators, the college was further enhanced by introducing M.Sc. Nursing and Nurse Practitioner in Critical Care (NPCC) courses in 2016 and 2020, respectively. Affiliated with the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka, and recognized by the Indian Nursing Council and Karnataka State Nursing Council, the college has trained numerous nurses whose skills and competence are acclaimed worldwide.

Diplomate of National Board – DNB
St. Martha’s Hospital, accredited to the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences since 1984, offers Residency programs leading to the "Diplomate of National Board (DNB)" degree in specialties including Anesthesiology, General Medicine, General Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Orthopedic Surgery, and Pediatrics. Admission is through the NEET PG exam, with selection by the NBEMS based on candidates' rankings. The institution boasts highly qualified faculty actively engaged in academic sessions, training programs, and thesis supervision to foster research-oriented learning. Regular meetings and lectures by visiting faculty enrich the medical staff's knowledge, while departmental clinical meetings facilitate case discussions for DNB trainees. Additionally, the hospital serves as a designated center for conducting NBE's Formative Assessment Tests, Practical Examinations, and DNB exit exams across various specialties.
