Established in 1990 by Dr. S.N. Dixit, Professor Emeritus at Northwestern University, Chicago, USA, the Jyoti Bal Vikas Sanstha in Kanpur originated w Read moreith just two students. Dr. Dixit, after spending 25 years in the USA, aimed to contribute to his birth city, Kanpur, by establishing an institution to aid the disabled. Affiliated with the Jyoti Children’s Development Foundation, USA, the foundation's objective is to educate disabled children, provide vocational training, and assist them in securing employment to foster independence and self-sufficiency. The school garnered positive responses from students' families, received generous donations globally, and thrived through the dedication of volunteers and staff, establishing itself as a respected institution. From a seed nurtured with care, it has grown into a tree offering education, care, and specialized services to hearing-impaired children nationwide. Currently, the school accommodates 200 students, including 55 residential students, and maintains a team of professionally trained and dedicated staff. Similar to other countries, children with disabilities in India often face social marginalization, and some are even rejected by their families. The Jyoti School for Hearing Impaired strives to combat this stigma and empower hearing-impaired children to integrate into society seamlessly. The school's mission is to prepare students for life beyond school, fostering their development as contributing individuals to society. For this purpose, the school provides students with a comprehensive academic education and imparts vocational skills, enabling them to become active members of the workforce. Emphasis is placed on language, communication, and sports to facilitate holistic development. With a specialized teaching staff and purpose-built facilities, the school focuses on communication, literacy, sports, and social skills, guiding students towards success.

The Jyoti School for The Hearing Impaired
StateThe school is situated approximately 20 miles from the center of Kanpur, amidst the verdant fields of Bithoor, a rural suburb with great historical and mythological significance. The Jyoti School for Hearing Impaired provides an ideal setting for learning, education, and skill development, away from the hustle and bustle of the industrial town. The school offers residential facilities with the capacity to accommodate around 65 students, and at present, 55 students reside in the hostel. The campus features:
• A dormitory with a capacity of 16 beds, constructed by the Rotary Club of Kanpur Greater, inaugurated on 08.05.2019.
• 12 rooms
• 1 dormitory
• A spacious dining hall accommodating 80 students at a time
• A kitchen and a storeroom.
The school boasts its own playfield, where regular competitions are organized, encouraging children to participate in various activities. -
Vocational training
StateEmpowering individuals with disabilities involves making them self-reliant and providing training in skills that enhance their contributions to society. The school is proud to house a fully equipped vocational training centre offering instruction in a variety of skills such as computers, screen printing, tailoring/sewing, leather crafting, electrical gadget repairing, fabrication of electrical gadgets (including ceiling fans), and carpentry, among other disciplines.
