The Sri Shiridi Sainath Seva Ashram Trust embraces the teachings and practices of Sai Baba, recognizing the imperative need to implement the principle Read mores advocated by Shri Sai Baba. Formed by a group of devoted individuals, the Trust is situated in Buguda, an area marked by prevalent inequality, caste-based discrimination, atrocities, and poverty among the weaker sections of society. Officially registered under the Societies Registration Act of 1860 in 2008, the Trust has been steadfastly working to uplift the poor and neglected segments of the community. Central to its ethos is the belief in the concept that 'Service to Mankind is Service to God.' The Trust, known as 'SaiShakatiDham,' possesses approximately 20 acres of land, focusing on service-oriented infrastructure to improve the conditions of people, foster mutual assistance, instil peace of mind, and promote universalism. Vision: Building a just society where people engage in benevolent acts, coexist harmoniously, respect and care for each other, find peace of mind, and are free from inequality, discrimination, poverty, and hunger. Mission: The mission of the Trust is to aid the deprived, neglected, discriminated, underprivileged, poor, and vulnerable sections of society through initiatives encompassing free education, skill-based employability training, healthcare services, support for the elderly, orphans, and destitute, as well as providing food without discrimination based on caste, creed, sex, and religion. The Ashram, since its inception, has undertaken various activities to assist those in need, including free child education, vocational training, mobile healthcare services, distribution of blankets to the elderly, free food distribution, clothing distribution, and provision of learning materials to underprivileged children. However, the operational area of the Ashram, located in Ganjam district, faces significant socio-economic challenges. The district is marked by food insecurity, with a high percentage of agricultural labourers, low female literacy rates, and notable tribal and Dalit populations. Additionally, there is a high incidence of infant mortality and underweight children, as well as discrimination against Dalit and tribal communities. Issues such as untouchability, atrocities, and a lack of access to basic services further compound the challenges faced by these communities. In this socio-economic context, the target communities in the Ashram's operational area encounter difficulties related to food scarcity, malnourishment, infant and child mortality, juvenile delinquency, inadequate education, lack of parental support, child labour migration, neglect, discrimination, abuse, exploitation, violence, HIV/AIDS prevalence, bonded labour, child marriage, limited access to state services, child trafficking, and destitution. The Ashram aims to address these multifaceted challenges through its comprehensive mission and vision.

Programs

  • Drinking water supply

    District
    State

Access to safe drinking water is a rare commodity in Gajam district, especially during the summer season. Throughout the year, a significant portion of the underprivileged communities continues to face the challenge of obtaining safe drinking water. This scarcity contributes to the prevalence of waterborne diseases among the local population. Recognizing this pressing issue, the Trust has implemented a piped water supply system serving 10 villages around Buguda. However, numerous other villages still await the provision of this essential facility.

  • Free education to children

    District
    State

Children represent the future of humanity. Every child deserves access to nutritious food, quality education, and proper healthcare. Embracing this belief and moved by the circumstances of children wandering aimlessly around every day, the Trust recognized the importance of educating these children and providing incentives to encourage consistent learning. Beginning with a modest number of children initially, the Trust now addresses the education needs of over 300 children.

  • Vocational training

    District
    State

Equally significant is the challenging situation faced by women in underprivileged and vulnerable sections, particularly those from Tribal and Dalit communities. To offer them a chance to acquire vocational skills and secure a consistent income to improve their circumstances, the Trust is conducting market-driven employability skill training programs tailored for women. Currently, the Trust has organized skill training sessions in leaf plate making and tailoring. The training duration spans three months to ensure proficiency. There are future plans to extend this initiative to remote areas within the block and district.

  • Healthcare services

    District
    State

Addressing the basic healthcare needs of the impoverished and vulnerable is a paramount objective of the Trust. The founder of the Trust, inspired by the devotion to Sri Sai Baba since 1992, harboured a desire to extend basic healthcare services to the underprivileged. To actualize this vision, the Trust has initiated mobile healthcare services in communities in need, catering to approximately 10,000 patients annually.

  • Distribution of blankets

    District
    State

The Trust distributes blankets and clothing to the most economically disadvantaged individuals, including leprosy patients, single women, widows, and tribal people in the Buguda and Polasara blocks of Ganjam district. Approximately 1000 individuals in need are identified annually through collaboration with community leaders, school teachers, and committed Sai followers who facilitate the distribution of these essential benefits.
