Swami Vivekananda Rural Development Society (SVRDS) emerged in response to the persistent educational challenges faced by rural children in Tamil Nadu Read more. Despite 75 years of independence, countless youngsters in remote areas lack access to primary education, a stark contrast to their urban counterparts. The organisation believes that collaborative efforts involving NGOs, corporations, responsible individuals, and Government bodies are crucial to overcoming the obstacles of poverty and illiteracy. In 2006, under the guidance of Swami Vivekananda Rural Development Society, Single Teacher Schools (STS) was established by Sri S. Vedantam. STS aims to deliver quality supplementary primary education to the underprivileged in remote villages, focusing on cultural, traditional, and moral values. The visionary approach of SVRDS is evident in its mission to bring primary education to the doorsteps of children in these underserved areas, fostering character development, discipline, and moral values. The organisation envisions a future where every child in Tamil Nadu, regardless of background, receives a holistic education, ultimately leading to self-sufficiency and economic liberation.

Swasth Jeevan Programme
The Swami Vivekananda Rural Development Society prioritizes the health of the village community through various initiatives. It regularly conducts General Health Check-ups, Eye Screening, and Heart Check-up Camps, along with cancer screenings and free cervical cancer vaccines for unmarried Acharyas. Single Teacher Schools actively participate in Health Awareness Camps on diseases like Dengue and Malaria. Corporate entities and hospitals, as part of their CSR schemes, sponsor Health Screening Camps. Over 24,850 villagers have benefited from these efforts. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the organisation provided Kabasura Kudineer for immunity, distributed free masks, educated on hygiene, and offered essential support to the community, exemplifying its commitment to public well-being.

Clean India Programme
The Swami Vivekananda Rural Development Society is actively involved in the Clean India Programme, focusing on the construction of Toilets cum Bathrooms in the houses of villagers. To date, it has successfully built 3800 toilets at Rs. 1900.00 Lakhs in remote villages, with an additional 1000 toilets currently under construction. The initiative, costing Rs. 50,000 per unit, is made possible through the support of donors and sponsors. Notably, the Hon'ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, has personally acknowledged and appreciated the efforts of SVRDS through Letters of Appreciation.

Skill Development Programmes
Swami Vivekananda Rural Development Society's Skill India Programme is transforming rural youth in Tamil Nadu. The newly inaugurated Skill Training Centre in Sriperumbudur offers free courses in Basic Computer, Web Designing, Tally, and Digital Marketing. Over 750 individuals have undergone training, and plans include expansion into Electrical, Plumbing, Welding, Carpentry, and more. The initiative also provides coaching for T.N.P.S.C., Bank Exams, and the Railway Recruitment Board. Aligned with Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi Ji's SKILL INDIA Programme, the state-of-the-art Centre collaborates with TVS Motors for Two-Wheeler Mechanism training and envisions partnerships with other major companies.

Jal Shakti Programme
The Swami Vivekananda Rural Development Society (SVRDS) is actively engaged in the Jal Shakthi initiative, focusing on the restoration of water bodies in rural areas. With a particular emphasis on desilting temple tanks and small water bodies, SVRDS has successfully desilted 90 temple tanks, including the Chitrakulam Tank in Mylapore, Chennai, at Rs. 225.00 lakhs. Support from the India Development & Relief Fund, USA, has strengthened this project, benefiting nearly three lakh villagers across remote areas like Konalam, Zamin Endathur, Akkinampattu, and more. As an ongoing and continuous effort, SVRDS invites the support of environmental enthusiasts and corporations to contribute to the restoration of additional rural water bodies in the years to come.

Single Teachers School Programme
StateSwami Vivekananda Rural Development Society runs Single Teacher Schools selected through a demographic survey, providing Supplementary Education to children attending Government Schools and dropouts. Operating on weekdays from 5 to 8 p.m., these schools, with an average class size of 30 children aged 5-12, cover Tamil, English, Arithmetic, and Basic Sciences. Emphasizing character building, discipline, hygiene, and Yoga, the schools are equipped with blackboards, mats, desks, textbooks, notebooks, library books, solar lamps, first aid kits, and sports materials. Extracurricular activities include poetry recitation, patriotic songs, quiz contests, drawing, story-telling, chess, and tennikoit. Children observe punctuality, engage in a prayer, undertake the national pledge, and maintain decorum. Regular Sports Meets, Science Exhibitions, and Cultural Programs enrich the overall development of the children.
