DIKSHA (Developing Initiatives for Knowledge and Social and Humanitarian Activities) is a Civil Society Organization (CSO/NGO) operating a school in P Read morealam Vihar, Gurgaon, Haryana. The primary objective is to offer free and high-quality education to children from low-income families residing in the neighborhood. Palam Vihar, located in Delhi, is recognized as one of the more affluent areas. However, our observations revealed a significant number of young children, ranging from toddlers to adolescents, wandering around construction sites, shopping areas, temples, and on the streets, begging for food and alms. An informal survey conducted by the organisation indicated that these children had either never attended school or had dropped out. In the absence of structure or guidance, many adolescents were drawn into illegal and anti-social activities, posing safety concerns as they roamed unsupervised in the streets. Recognizing the urgent need to provide these children with a structured educational environment, DIKSHA was established. The goal is to deliver proper education, instill a sense of structure, and encourage adolescents to lead productive lives. DIKSHA is a volunteer-driven non-profit school striving to empower about 400 children who come from economically weaker sections of the community and equip them with the requisite knowledge and life skills to help them lead their lives with dignity, responsibility and purpose. : DIKSHA school provides free quality education, school supplies (books, stationery and uniforms) and mid-day meal and daily snacks for its students and gives preference to migrant and low income families. The school has been a self-sustaining organization since its inception, drawing support from its pool of individual donors under an education sponsorship program.

Midday meals
Midday meals have become crucial, given that many children often lack access to nutritious meals at home. DIKSHA ensures that all its students receive free midday meals five days a week. These meals, prepared fresh in the on-site kitchen by the DIKSHA cook, offer a well-balanced diet containing the essential proteins and carbohydrates necessary for the students' growth and development.

Collaboration with Feeding India by Zomato
DIKSHA collaborated with Feeding India by Zomato to offer a nourishing breakfast to students daily, addressing their nutritional requirements. This initiative is a significant stride in eliminating hunger and alleviating malnutrition among the students, aiming to enhance their overall health and academic performance. The introduction of breakfast in the morning was a delightful surprise for the students, who relished the meal accompanied by milk. Some expressed joy at having 2-3 glasses of milk, revealing that financial constraints had hindered them from enjoying it regularly.
