Gram Sudhar Samiti was established and registered in 1987 by five likeminded persons who were very active and associated with Jayprakash Vinobha Bhav Read moree and the Sarvodaya movement. Mr. Arun Tyagi, president of GSS carried forward the activities of GSS by mobilizing the local inhabitants and forming peoples Sangathans in 50 villages. It got itself registered under the FCRA in 1996. Gram Sudhar Samiti (GSS) works for development of some of the most deprived and vulnerable communities in Singrauli, Sidhi, Rewa and Satna districts in Madhya Pradesh. Currently, GSS works in promoting (and protecting the right to) education, health, proper nutrition for children, community-based initiatives to address varied forms of exploitation, deprivation, atrocities; culture, local literature and livelihood, and natural resources to create a better enabling environment for good local governance. It support and provide assistance to the deprived and socially exploited sections (dalits and tribal) of the society in availing the rights based on NTFP. It also assists in availing legal rights to the displaced. It also serves to tackle violence against women by mass awareness generation through wall writing, street plays and cultural programmes in association with Madhya Pradesh Voluntary Health Association (MPHVA) and with support from UNFPA.
