They achieve this through the provision of free tuition classes, computer classes, and dance classes conducted during both morning and evening sessions. Furthermore, economically disadvantaged women and widows are imparted with tailoring skills through afternoon sessions. Two individuals, Uma and her husband Vasudevan, who faced the challenges of growing up in poverty and overcoming educational barriers, have devoted their lives to enhancing the education of children in the slums of Chennai. The couple, driven by their own experiences, established KS Welfare Trust, a non-profit organization committed to offering free education to children in Kannagi Nagar. Their primary objective is to provide these children with opportunities they never had, breaking the cycle of poverty through education. At KS Welfare Trust, Uma and Vasudevan tirelessly work towards delivering high-quality education, encompassing subjects like reading, writing, math, science, and social studies, along with extracurricular activities such as art, music, and sports.
